Through 41,000 miles across Vietnam on my Fat Boy, I cross the Hai Van Pass a few times; blistering hot days, and fricking foggy winter days. It's a good ride and great scenery.
BUT, if you have time and want a great ride, you must ride the Ho Chi Minh Road. I have tracks on every kilometer of it, and it is the most fantastic trail I've ever been on. Through the Central Mountains is awesome, but the real treat is on the Western Branch: about 250 km of concrete lane through remote jungle north of Khe Sanh. I have an interactive google map on my web site of most of the trails I rode. You can contact me via my web site if you want to chat about your trip. www.harleytracks.com
Check out my story in the March issue of Easyriders magazine.

Hi Mike took a good look at your video last night. Sadly we are only in Vietnam for 3 weeks and as always end up over doing the travel part and forget the relax part! Will only be able to do the Hai Van Pass and sadly again on a small bike. Depending what we see it may well be on the radar for a return bike adventure. Like America, Australia had a "presence" in Vietnam that helped divide as well as unite our nation and its only of recent times that the Vietnam vets have been more accepted for their service sadly. Battle of Long Tan solidified the ANZAC fighting spirit that our boys are known for and they held off an estimated 2500 vietcong. Looking forward to my trip.
