Hi there,
Just sold my sporty, and am looking at a softail deluxe 2005 1450cc, an absolutely beautiful bike to look at, problem though its got no history, and it is a personal import.
I think personal import is not a problem really cause they were all built in the same factory in the USA, but not having history may be a little problem.
Any advice would be appreciated as I'm a bit worried with the fact it has 62k on the clock
Cheers

Is it registered? My bike was an import through a dealer and I had to provide the import clearance papers to get it registered in SA.

I always like to see a bit of doco on the oil change history. Nothing available from the seller?

Plenty of near new motors for sale cheap, if you can get the bike cheap enough

Just cam chain guides from what I have read especially on early twin cams.

Hi sporty. Have an import 2003 1450 deuce with 105k. Had it since 17k. Still going strong. Sometimes prefer it over the ultra. Asked my service guys at about 60k whether I should look round for a donor replacement engine for when this one shit itself. Got told not to bother. Engines cheap strong and easy to rebuild if and when needed. Oil change every 5k.
Only thing is I think you’re getting a 5 speed. Bikes are cheap cheap cheap. No reason to lose sleep if you can’t negotiate a great cash price. Thousands of others with motivated sellers. In some ways the current seller got a 5k 1 year warranty on a bike with no history. Can you get one of the forum fellers to take a look. If it looks ok, you continue to service and check it regularly. Good luck.

Good advice beagle. Keep mods to cosmetic. Will get those tensioners in due course. From experience Sounds like you’ll get some motoring out of that bike.

62K? It’s just run in! A few checks like listening to the Motor, test riding, looking at the oil condition, and if possible have a tech check it over should give you a good idea if it’s good or not. I wouldn’t be put of with the odometer reading though.....I’m more suspicious of bikes that haven’t been riden!

sporty , should be ok stock , but if it was me I would check the cam chain adjusters for wear, front one is easy to get at rear one harder.
personally I think the 5 speed gear box a lot stronger than the 6 speed ( have seen both apart

It's a buyer's market. I'd find a newer bike with less mileage, longer stroke 96/103 ci, six speed gear box and the upgraded oem cam tensioners. Mate bought a 2008 dyna with a lot less kms for $12k and it had service history too. Bloke wanted $14k and when offered 12 cash it went
