Hi guys looking for a experienced motorcycle fabricator who can do following, ideally in NSW.
-tank swap from 2018 street bob to aftermarket king sporty tank (widened 48 replica tank). Back bone mount and internal (fuel pump, floater, connectors, fuel guage sync etc)
Any recommendations, pointers and advice appreciated.

While not a Harley specific bloke, my go to would be Darren at DNA in Penrith.

    www.facebook.com/DNAcustomcycles/

He does more fabrication work then 'customisation' but he's got the skills and equipment (CNC, Plasma cutter) to fabricate it CLEANLY without ugly ass brackets etc

It'd be good to know if any aftermarket manufacturer has already started to produce custom tanks for the 2018 Softails and in particular the Street Bob.  With modern bikes you need the cutout for the fuel pump which is a bit of work to fab as a one off.

Zombie performance make the weld in EFI plates for the existing sporty/TC.

However I am unsure if the pump is the same pattern for the 18 softails. The other issue is just getting the pump into the tank is a major pain in the ass. The 18 pump may be physically larger and pose other issues.

I have done this conversion before (sporty tank onto a FXDB) for a customer, I used the sporty fuel pump and it worked fine for the TC utilizing the same loom.

Although it's all personal preference, I think what you have planned will look good on paper, but exposing that big ugly backbone on the 18 bike is not going to look much good.

I also have a severe hatred for springer seats and working rear suspension on the same bike, It's like that triumph bobber thing.

Here is an older carb night train with the better looking backbone, these softies work well with the Sporty tank and the seat is right on the oil tank giving a much sleeker look.

    Good luck.

    TC = twin cam

    TC is twin cam.

Do a measurement of the widest 2 bolts on your 18 pump and then you will know if it can work with the sporty tank. The King sporty might be a bit wider on the side but I know on the 2.2Gal Peanut tanks the pump takes up the whole underside and takes some very precise TIG work to keep it neat and out of sight.

Also another consideration is the orientation of the pump, can the 18 pump be run upside down without cavitation/starvation?

    Food for thought.

I think there were a whole bunch or reasons there were no aftermarket bolt on tanks for the dyna series, only one I ever found was by easy riders in Japan, but was pre EFI.
That big square backbone looked fairly goofy.
I was considering getting something fabbed up for my efi wideglide but it quickly fell into the ‘too hard too expensive’ category.

    thanks very much.
exhaust is still stock and un-decided.. yet.. its funny that the exhaust was one of the first thing I wanted to do yet still changing my mind 10 times a day. .. probably because I know it's one thing that will make or brake the looks... I'm looking at custom fabricating one and torn apart between 30 degree up turn grumpet x 2. OR extended straight pipe with turn out... Both with exhaust wraps towards the header area...  OR OR OR,,, hacker custom Mayham exhaust...

    What do ya reckon??

    The middle one !
They all look badass but will suit the lines of the bike.
    Awesome progress keep at it

Of those three exhausts, I like the top one followed by the middle. The bottom is too modern in style to suit your bike I reckon.

I agree with Fatbat. The upswept trumpets are classic.

Well here is my take, you want this to be your own bike so why imitate other's do something new that look's ok.
to me the top pipe the bends look all wrong, thats not style, the middle one look's better but still nothing new.
only two thing's I don't like about the bottom pipe, first is the front pipe covers the push rods & lifter blocks just so the bike can have running board's, you want to show off your push rod tubes & lifter blocks, as that is a beautiful part of a HD motor!! So run front pipe below the nose cone, make it two into one like the bottom pipe, but not that pipe end!! Just behind gear box and infront of rear tyre, have the two into one pipe going up ( as high as you personally like & ending in a Fish tail as the law on Harley upswept pipes is fish tail end!!!
but just a suggestion, good luck!!
