    Gents
Finally got my full license and been toying with the idea of buying a harley .
My main issues are reliable and comfort , I’ve taken the new fatboy and streetbob for test rides , I love that fatboy but it’s rather heavy . I didn’t like the streetbob at all .
I just don’t want to spend a heap of coin and have it spend hours at a shop getting fixed ?
I also want to do some long distance interstate rides

Get a pushbike, they are pretty reliable and don't cost a lot of coin.
Also get a comfortable couch because they are comfortable. Price of both is still way less than a new bike.
Gotta say that is the strangest damn question I have ever heard. Do I wan't a Harley?.

Only you can answer the question.

Harleys have been reliable since the Evolution engine came out in 1984.

Any big twin Harley can tour interstate.

Try it. If you don't like it, move on to another bike.

What they're all trying to say is no brand is perfect (or at least not every bike) but Harley is as reliable as any other brand these days - maybe more-so since there's less electronic shit.

Stucky.   There are some really good tips for you here.   I've been a fan of Harleys for about 25 years and only got my first one a month ago (a new Fatboy).   It took me a while to decide what model I wanted.   I've done several test rides over the last 12 months,  ranging from dyna's to v'rods to softails all 2017s.   Enjoyed them all but ended up confused until I rode the new Fatty.    If you really want a Harley then be 100% prepared.  Because its gunna cost you.   I've got several friends who have Harleys and all have been reliable.   One in particular has a 10 yr old Heritage Softail with 70,000 kays on the clock and not missed a beat.  Take it from me,   if you want to tour get a big twin,  but get something that will turn well like a Heritage,  Street Glide or Road glide.   A Softail Deluxe or Slim would be good too.   But as for the new Fatty,  they are awesome.  I love my bike,  great throught the faster sweepers and straight roads but you need to put more effort into tighter bends.    One thing I will say is that the 107 is an economical engine so far,   only 500 kays on the clock and achieving up to 300 kays from a tank.   Should be over that when fully run in.   All I can suggest is get out there and test a few different models and then decide.

thank you for all the replies , I know it sounds like a pretty broad question. I have just heard some bad reviews online about warranties and Harley being a pain in the ass to deal with.

if I'm going to spend all this money on a bike and do some tours I want to know I'm not going to be stranded without any support.

I love the fatboy and I'm sure I will purchase it. stay tuned

Good point....  Best bet for the OP is that if he decides upon a Harley then ask about the dealer he is going to and we could PM him  any vital feedback.

Hey Stucky there are good and bad points on all new bikes today.

I ride a 1993 Heritage Softail is it bullet proof the answer is no, has it broken down on me the answer is no, so far so good.

So what I am trying to say that any bike can break down no matter what name is on the tank, good friend of mine owns a Triumph only 4 years old but has had many problems but others have had none (btw I like Triumph's even owned one).

Another example Japanese this time is the Suzuki M109 great bike know a few people who owned them but goggle up gearbox problems and believe me there are many.

Ok hope you get my drift you got to take a chance buying any bike, if you listen and believe everything you read on the net well mate you might as well hang up your helmet now and buy a car.

Oh btw talking about car's read some of the forums about them and see how many problems people are having with there car's of all different brands, sometimes you just got to take that leap of faith.

You have to be sceptical of every thing you read or hear about whatever your interest is, it's hard being a new guy, your a blank canvas, expect to make mistakes along the way, you gotta become an expert at sifting,

But the most important thing is you just gotta jump in,

Beware the Stealers Salesman, never take what they say as gospel, most of those guys wouldn't know Shit from Chocolate if it were in their mouths,

Jump in, fuck up and learn,

Just a couple of thought bloke, Any warranty on anything but especially motorcycles is only as good as the people behind it. ie The dealer you bought the damn thing off.

Modern Harleys (Mine is a 2007 Superglide) are reliable and oiltight. Not so fast but. Mind you I got my most recent ticket on it (113 KM in a 100 zone on the open road).

A good independant Mechanic especially a Harley specialist or a Harley inclined shop is worth a lot more than your dealer. Shit buy one , if you don't like it sell it and buy something else. And seriously electronics aside they are not that hard to work on. And if you are good with a schematic diagram and a soldering iron that won't worry you either.

The only time my bike has ever failed is because I have cocked up not it.

I was a Triumph rider and never like Harley's until the Fat Bob came out. I wrote off the Triumph, a Daytona 900 so went straight out and bought the Fat Bob. I am now on my second Fat Bob and love it. I have never had any mechanical problems, but did have to claim warranty on the first one which was a painful experience but only because of the dealers attitude and them trying to get out of honoring the warranty.  I can not see me buying anything other than Harley now.
Buy from the right dealer and all should be good. Enjoy the ride.

Stucky, the fact is that you have asked the question " Is HD for me ", this in itself indicates to me that you may be too smart for the HD world,
