Hi got a 2013 fat bob that every know and then takes alot of winding over to start, once it initially starts, its fine for the rest of the day, its done it 3 or 4 times now im thinking maybe, fuel pump only a guess, bike runs fine when going if was a dirty fuel filter it would be missing and carrying on, are the fuel pumps in behind the speedo console .? Thanks

Mandingo, dunno if this helps, but my previous bike I bought new and had 2 batteries replaced under warranty in the first year. It never sat longer than 3 weeks between rides. Same symptoms as you describe. I eventually got a trickle charger/ battery conditioner and replaced the last battery 8 years later.

If the bike has had a dyno tune or a canned map added, then you may need to get into the tuner and add some cranking fuel. Good luck.

If filter is clogged you usually notice that the pump takes a little longer to prime. I changed mine at 35000k will be doing it at 20000 intervals now

As it runs the pump has to be working ,but swap it out anyway.
If the starter is labouring it might not want to start, check to see if the decomp is working as well.

most efi systems give a fair "dose" of fuel on cold start[just like a choke function.ie rich mixture]then leans out as eng /inlet air temp rises to a normal idle mixture .some one in an earlier post asked if you have had a canned tune and if so you may need to increase the fuel mix,but that setting would remain the same i would have thought and not change intermittantly.i would imagine if you had an intermittant loss of current to ign/fuel system it would occur hot or cold.it appears you have good cranking.out of curiosity ,it would be good to see the voltage/current [multimeter] at the power supply to ign/fuel systems when cold starting, you would need to back probe the relative positive terminal to read this, not always easy/conveinent. a loose connector that is just touching might be a cause, but only guessing really.

    hey, i have a '12 fat bob,
bike used to crank and start beautifully, then went on a 6 month holiday and something went wrong with the trickle charger, yep then had a dead battery.

So off to the local auto parts shop, they order in something that happened to be made in korea....now the new battery won't really crank as solid and strong as before, especially on it's first start of the day.

next time i will spend the extra and go genuine.

Have to work down the line, if the bike sits between weekends move on to injectors. My not be atomizing the fuel made worse with extra fuel on cold start, at least run a quality cleaner through since it is the next cheapest fix before pulling things apart.
