Serious assault police investigation, Sunshine Coast
    QPS Media on Dec 24, 2017 @ 11:09am
Police are hoping the public can help with an investigation into the serious assault of a police officer on December 22.
Around 4.30pm, Keven De Vroom, 45, was intercepted in a vehicle travelling southbound on Maleny-Montville Road at Balmoral Ridge.
After police pulled him over, he became hostile and punched and kicked a male sergeant in the head a number of times.
The officer deployed his oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray and Taser but was unsuccessful in stopping the assault.
The man tried to choke the officer before stealing his helmet which had his police-issued Body Worn Camera (BWC) attached.
He then fled in his vehicle, a white 2009 Toyota Hi-Ace Van with Queensland registration 730WDZ.
The 47-year-old male sergeant was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with facial injuries, but has since been discharged.
Anyone who may have seen De Vroom or knows of his whereabouts is urged not to approach him but to contact police immediately.
Police would also like to appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the assault to contact Policelink on 131 444.
The Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating.

Update: Serious assault police, Glass House Mountains
    QPS Media on Dec 25, 2017 @ 8:13am
Police are hoping the public can help with an ongoing investigation into the serious assault of a police officer on Christmas Eve.
Around 4.45pm yesterday, a Road Policing Unit officer was assaulted by the passenger of a white Toyota Camry that was stopped on Johnston Road in the Glass House Mountains.
Investigators believe the man is Ashley Dodd, 39, and would like to speak with him in relation to the matter.
Before the assault, he had been asked to get out of the car so a search could be performed.
A quantity of drugs including Oxycodene tablets were located on him.
It was then that he tried to flee, physically lashing out at the officer before turning around and punching him in the head, causing him to fall to the ground.
He then jumped onto the officer and continued punching him, before directing the driver to get out of the vehicle with a nine-year-old passenger.
He then got into the vehicle and sped off.
The officer, a 49-year-old male sergeant, was transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for medical treatment.
He suffered a dislocated finger as well as facial and head injuries including bruises and grazes.
The initial driver, a 24-year-old Glass House Mountains man, is assisting police with their enquiries.
Anyone who may have seen Dodd or knows of his whereabouts is urged not to approach him but to contact police immediately.
Police are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, has dashcam footage or who may have seen a white 2001 Toyota Camry with registration 894HAD to come forward.
The vehicle was stolen from Glenview on December 10.
This is the second police officer who has been seriously assaulted while performing important Christmas road safety traffic duties on the Sunshine Coast in three days, however it is not linked to Friday afternoon’s incident.

There's a common theme here Pauly....... bloody Toyota drivers!

    Hey, I got a Toyota.

But seriously, some people just don't give a damn, about anything.

I know. I lost a son to an ex-girlfriend in a blind rage.

Probably Sgt’s as they volunteered to give others time off around this time of year.
I believe that mandatory sentences for assaulting cops is well overdue. We have all met the best & the worst of those in blue, but irrespective they should be protected.

    My 2c.

Not convinced on mandatory sentencing JFE.

Was convicted of Assault Police many years ago on lies told by multiple officers, some of who were not on the scene.

Judge said straight out that he'd believe a police officers' testimony over that of an accused offender.

    No win situation. Found Guilty.

It was a good learning experience for a young bloke with too much to say.......

As for the comment you can't be upholding the laws if you are breaking them. Well back in the day, i have received a few clips around the ear from the local plod. At the time i was not happy but in reflection know i deserved it for my poor attitude or disrespect and knew that was it. Now i was going to be in a different world of trouble if plod told my Dad as that generation also had respect for the law and would side with their version of events rather than mine. Fast forward 45yrs plod cant even reprimand young offenders or bother because the courts let them go and adults bait them and test their patience and some people seem to think thats its acceptable to assault them because they should be allowed to continue breaking the law and no one will stop them. Imagine having to deal with fuckwits like this everyday.

If you ride a bike, HD or otherwise, and you haven't experienced police harassment or victimisation, then you don't get out much.

Seems a number of forum members have had issues with police, I personally have had some problems with them but have never been picked on for just minding my own business not breaking any laws.
If I think back I more than likely deserved the problems I had for doing what I was doing when they caught up with me, raised to treat people with some respect  ( especially cops ) saved me a number of times in getting off with warnings. While there are some real pigs out there most get satisfaction from helping victims through often the worst times of their lives and show great restraint dealing with drugies and child molesters and resist the urge to kick fuck out of them while trying  to comfort victims of the scum of our society, very hard job. I wonder, what would police haters do if their car/bike was stolen, or worse, their son or daughter was bashed or raped, would you call the police and expect them to find the person who did it and if they did catch them would the cops be heroes or still be pigs. Most interactions people have with police is their revenue raising activities in taking our hard earned dollars for breaking in our perspective some trivial law that was hurting no one or we had a few and were just having a bit of fun but they stepped in and told us to pull our heads in because the people around us didn't see the funny side of our activities. Without these people it wouldn't be safe to walk out the front door or for that matter to stay behind it. Far from kissing their arse I do respect most of what they do.

Same here Pauly. Bikes and cars and have got away with a lot more than I should have for my own well being and more importantly others on the road. I know that might sound a bit wanky but have a few regrets these days at what might have been. The few times I have been nabbed the boys in blue have been fair when they should have been kicking my arse. My old man was an old school copper and have a couple in the family. Would not have their job for quids.

Hey croppee, just remembered funny story,  a good story. I like your bottom line, so true.
"Bottom line, detain, arrest, question people for whet they do or are legitimately suspected of doing, not for who they are or how they appear. Until they give every member of the public the respect they deserve as an individual regardless of their appearance or interests they can get fucked."
I'd just come down from North Queensland cane season, moved to Brisbane Fortitude Valley, between a milk processing plant and a brothel...hmm best of both worlds in 77.
Bloody 1959 Kombi, with Laverda in the back , (hippy with bikes) when she decided to cut out at lights in whatever main road it was down the Valley, two coppers, ask why no number plates at all.(those were the days) But I had a piece of paper on the windscreen saying registered, and waiting for plates. So these two big "Fat" buggers are pushing me Kombi, dog barking at them to go faster, down the road for jump start, that was funny!
Have had better and much worse from coppers as we all have, a lot deserved, some not so.
Growing up in SA, early 70"s could become a copper or a labourer if no trade, I choose labourer, and got 4 times the pay as a copper.
Enough of this crap I gotta work on my bike...
