    Fair call. 
    I’m not sure they DID invest it otherwise in the bike though. 

    All reports say that this is a well made, decent bit of kit. From what I see, I’d have to agree. 

    But that said, this is marketed to the retro bike crowd. It’s specific aim is to meet that market. 

    The exhaust, in my opinion, is a let down. I believe that some potential buyers who would cringe at the $18,000 price tag but grit their teeth and buy regardless will simply balk at having to pay $20,000 by the time that it looks like it should. 

    Others won’t care about price at all and buy regardless and still others will have nixed it when the sticker price exceeded $14,000. 

    I’m not talking about either category of buyers. 

    I’m just saying that an admittedly great machine, marketed and sold as a retro bike, should look like one from the front, side and rear. It doesn’t and I find that annoying. I believe they could have cut a modest corner somewhere (hello, middle LCD Display) and achieved that without compromising the price. 

    Imagine if Ferrari sold a retro-style Testarrossa but it has no door cuts/fins but you could buy them after market for an extra $2000. Or a Countach retro but the doors open outwards not upwards unless you fork out $2000 for special hinges. 

    The exhaust “look” made these bikes just as much. That all I mean. Having a single pipe is madness, even if third party alternatives that look better and ARE better become available.

    And yeah, I appreciate the irony of me whinging about this on a Harley forum!

    I’m spent. 

    Also, I have to save up my energy to buy one, crappy exhaust notwithstanding. For exactly the same reasons you said.

    Yep. Seen the latest GSXR-1000? Looks like an amputated leg all cleaned up and painted silver’ish. They planned that crap to be ditched pre-purchase!

    Ha - ok, fine. I’m clearly outvoted on this!
    I just reckon the 4 pipes looked awesome then and would look awesome now, and should come standard now, as they did then. 

    That’s all.

    What is wrong with the modern bikes?
    Kawasaki make a perfectly good Z900.
    Every second bike seems to be retro.
    Are car buyers going back to FJ holdens? NO!

    Just last week in Australia an original "Z900" 4 pipe exhaust system complete , hung in grease for 25+ years , sold on ebay Australia for $1627 and had 47 bidders !

    Looked a bit ropey to me for that money. Sold by a widow from her husband's shed apparently

    Last month here in Perth WA a complete clean Green z900 with "remake" 4 pipes sold for $12500 so go figure !!
