I am taking a bike to the US next year from Australia to go touring.  Probably a stupid question but I have gone trough every thread I can find on riding through the US and what’s the deal with licence plates. Do they issue me a temporary licence plate in the US or do I use my Aussie licence plate? 

Who ever is transporting your bike would have the answer ? Insurance is pivotal in the states. Enjoy your trip.

Given their bargain prices would it not be easier to just hire or buy a HD outright while over there????

if your traveling and returning, yes I would say you keep your number plates.

I’ve asked my shipping agent and he doesn’t have a clue, ha. From what I can find on the internet it seems that I can use my plates. Just need a permit. I looked into purchase, and with our Aussie dollar at around 76us cents, it’s just not worth it. Hiring is still a possibility but I think that running you’re own gear and having it set up the way you like it, is better. Thanks for the replies.
