Mini Apes on Softail Standard

Mini Apes on Softail Standard

At 6'3 I'm sick of the stiff back I get on my 2013 Softail Standard on long rides. Not a big fan of apes, but thinking of putting mini apes on it to straighten my back out a bit when riding. Thing is, I hear mini apes make handling worse, plus I really don't know which brand of mini apes are considered better than others. Also, do they look better with braided cables or internal?
I know the who 'which bars' thing has been done to death, but I'm struggling find any that catch my eye so all advice greatly appreciated.

Hey Sean, The FXSTC came out standard with about 10 or 12 inch mini après, They had external wiring. Maybe if you can, have a look at the 1.25 inch thick for something diff in the mini apes. The FXSTC were only 1 inch thick, same as on the Heritage, they same bars.

Cheers Steve. Yeah the thicker bars do look a little better. Think I need a tour of dealers to see some live on a bike

Have a look at Rollies site in Brisbane, and check out Wild 1, chubby bars

Yeah second the Wild1 bars, I fitted a set of the WO502 12 1/2" mini apes to my fatboy after trying risers with my mid westerns, wished I had done it straight away - that bike was so comfortable and between the bars and detachable screen they were the best mods I did to it. I did procrastinate for quite a while as I wanted to be certain, also spent the time to choose the right height for me.
As to handling, I'd say my bike felt better after fitting the mini apes - mine were only 12 1/2" high so nothing extreme.
Also purchased bars and cables thru Rollies - great to deal with.

Wild One Chubbies for me as well, I love the ones I have on my RoadKing.

Big man on a softail, 12" apes, 1" risers, 3" extended forward controls, low single seat, proven combo, one thing by it's self probably won't feel right.

Thanks for the advice folks. Liking the Wild1 Chubbies and risers. Not sure about the forward controls at this stage as I quite like the standard riding position, plus budget won't stretch that far. Wondering if Wild1 or Rollies will have a booth at the Sydney Motorcycle Show next month, would be good to see them first hand.
