2008 Sportster Fuse box corrosion

hi Folks, I've just noticed my fuse holder is showing signs of corrosion (white/blue powder) at the terminals. I've read some reports this is common. Anyone had this? What did you do to treat it and stop it getting worse?

I reckon this might have something to do with the battery being right close to the fuses. I'd like to figure out a way to neutralise any corrosive activity around there. Maybe when it gets wet, the water washes corrosive material from the battery down onto the fuses.

Is there any significant difference between dielectric grease and silicone grease?

I have NFI. I've always used the stuff that comes in tubes btw. Spraying the shit on looks way to messy and I'd think it would only be a thin layer?

Current doesn't flow in dielectric materials Jim, the dielectric facilitates the separation of places of differing voltage. Sort of like a boxing referee getting between two fighters is probably the best analogy. Dielectric sprays are pretty cheap, most auto supply wholesalers carry it. $15 can will last you a lifetime. I like the tinted ones so you can see where it's applied, most are tinted blue (dunno why)

Interesting...
I can probably find a stack of videos (just watched one yesterday about bulbs) where experts lather the shit all over everything, but I think of the grease as a sealant to keep water and shit away. I like the gooey/thicker tube shit as I sometimes wipe it around the top of fuse boxes (and around each fuse when they are plugged in) were water seems when you wash the bike or it gets wet.

The trouble with non-dielectric greases Bonk is that if you get a void UNDER the grease layer you then have a mini sealed battery working away corroding the assembly. The good shit is so cheap it's a no-brainer IMO.

Cheers, it was advice (as I mentioned above) I've heard before, but wasn't sure of.
