Slim S - runs hot

    Hi guys, our Softail Slim S(110 CU) really runs very hot. So much so that in summer it's pretty unpleasant. Has anyone fitted the premium oil cooler kit and does it actually work ???

    It'll likely be the tune mate. Mine was warmish with the exhaust and tune, but with the 117 and tune it's actually really good.
    Don't be afraid to use that engine shut down thingy that shuts the rear cylinder off at the lights, that'll probably make it a little better.

    as said above, plenty of fuel to keep it cool.

    Do you have aftermarket pipes? The stock ones have a cat convertor that increases heat.

    The 255 cam does not help either.

    Have the tune updated to the 621 strategy by your dealer too, will help tremendously with hot starting as the ACR's do nothing in the as delivered tune.

    Hi Pat,
    My bikes not the same as yours, only a standard 103 Dyna Low Rider. But i was concerned about the heat and oil life I fitted a HD oil cooler and it made a big difference. The hotter the the engine the more benefit you will get from the oil cooler/radiator, not sure why its not a standard piece of equipment.I guess thats HD for you.

    I have noticed my 103 ultra runs a lot cooler with 91 octane. Quieter as well. Probably wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding though. :-)

    Thanks all you guys - all good advice! Should have mentioned up front it is stock standard with standard pipes... Will try the tune

    Hi Ya all, solution to the Slim S running so hot ...... some Captain Itch leather covers.  They are fantastic and really improved my comfort level 100 %.
