Does anyone know of a good machine shop on the Gold Coast or the south side of Brisbane. Thinking I will get the standard 103 cylinders taken out to 107.

Be interested to see what it costs you to get them done, compared to just buying the 107 barrels.

    Keep us posted mate.

    Cheers

is it really worth it, is the gain you achieve worth the money that you spend doing it?

I have been looking at the S & S 110 kit and the best price I can find is thru J & P for $1132 USD posted. How does the other kit compare China and any idea what they charge for post.

all good mate all info is good. I have spoken to a shop on the Gold Coast called Karupt Kustoms and they reckon with the heads and cams I have the S & S kit when matched will give nice results. Not sure if they dyno tune or not but I have a bloke I've used before who is great.

I've alway's thought, resizing used barrels, better than using new barrels. but when the stock barrels get taken out to larger bore, they get a bit thin, the new style of beefy bore linner then tapper it off at bottom to fit a smaller case hole. allow's you to have a thicker cylinder linner , that I would expect would hold it's round better. So i think thats worth looking into as well. a good machine shop that has top equipment and top operator getting hard to find, but they are there or here in Australia.

I have to think about how I want to go with it now. I got onto a local shop and they can supply the kit plus the adjustable push rods, cam bearings and oil system upgrade with fitting and dyno tune for $4500. Certainly more than I first thought but I only want to do it once.

Should cost about 400$ for cylinder boring, probably 400$ for pistons, find a car shop for work, alot of bike shops send out

I looked at a set of big bore s and s barrels, they look like the way I would go personally if I was having a big twin resized.
like csb posted make sure if having barrels bored the machine shop has torque plates, I personally know two different machine shops that resize Harley's in nsw, both use torque plates they made for that job. have had both resize Harley motors for me in past , and latter on when had heads off could see they did a good job, also I like the using sunnen honing stones to finish bore.

    We can do
    $1650 110kits
    $1230 oiling system
    $300 push rods
    $1000 labour

    $505 dyno

    For free

    Top end gaskets
    Oil and filter
    Upgraded cam bearings

this is what they recommended, with the oiling system it gets 18% more flow.
I have been told by a few people that the 103 barrels are thin and it's not a good idea to bore them out. I certainly didn't expect the extent of the flow on effect for heads and cams haha.
I want it to be pretty much bullet proof and don't want to be worried about it breaking.
As most of you would've guessed this is the first engine I have bought heads for. I have done cams before but just wanted more this time.

Steve if you haven't settled on any one yet give Fred at Pro Cycle Dyno a go up at Slacks Creek .
Not sure if he is still there but he had a guy working in the shop who specializes in Head work and other types of machining .

Biggest problem was Fred dosent work Saturdays any more .

I'd get new 110 cylinders, 10.5 comp pistons and some mild head work with bigger ports done locally. Run with s&s 585 cams which it sounds like you have and it'll rip. Even without the headwork you'd have gobs of torque just without as much.

I already have the SE heads and the 585 cams. As I put in a previous post the kit and push rods are $2k. They recommend the oil kit as it makes it more bullet proof. They want $1k labour to do the job which seems fairly reasonable. They will do whatever I want as well but they said with the oil system upgrade the engine will be able to take more punishment. The oil system they use is comparable to the S & S kit which costs $1800. I am still open to suggestions though.
