More fork issues.

Last weekend, I rebuilt my forks. The right leg was pretty damn good and the left was a touch iffy but it all went together well. Today, I was on my way to a ride when I noticed oil on the front wheel, I pulled over and there's oil dribbling down the back of the right fork leg.
I followed the manual all through the rebuild with the only deviation being an extra 2mm oil level height.
I'm wondering, would bottoming out the forks cause them to push oil out past the seals? I was going to put spacers in to add some preload but got the shits with trying to get the tops back on so I left them out.
I'm a bit lost as to where to go from here. If it's likely to be due to bottoming out, I'll get some more oil, top them up tomorrow and throw the spacers in for a short term remedy.
Any help/advice would be hugely appreciated.
