I know this topic has been done to death but can you dudes that ride Ultras give me an idea of what shocks to use. I ride all sorts of roads and do long miles mostly 2 up with the bike right up on its max GVM. Looking for comfort and a shock that won't bottom out too often. Looking to spend less than a 1000 big ones. I've narrowed it down to a few different types. Progressive Air 416, YSS, Ikon and even tossing up putting Monroe Air shocks made for cars.
Just looking for up to date opinions on recent experiences.
    Thanks

    Hi Damo,
I have tested so many shockers on these bikes with very poor results. Seems to me that they all have a good brochure but not the product to back it up. I know the Ohlins Products are a bit more expensive but after 5 years of supplying them with 100% customer satisfaction and product reliability it makes recommending them a guaranteed success.

I have done thousands of Ks with a set of Ohlins shocks with amazing results. The compression dampening works perfect. Lots of spring pre-load adjustment. But the best part is the amount of rebound adjustment. Solo riding or with a pillion and a full load of gear there is an adjustment that works.
During my testing I kept adjustment notes for the weight and type of road conditions. Now whenever I have the same situations arise I can carry out my adjustment with ease.

I have a test set that I fit to customer bikes so the rider can try first hand on their own bike before spending the money. I fit and adjust them at no charge and are available for a full weekend so it gives ample opportunity to give them a good test. Obviously this procedure can only work for customers that are local to my shop in bayswater Vic.

I am more than happy to chat to you at any time to answer any questions you may have.
    Cheers,
    Brian Lennon.

Thanks EBT i appreciate your time to comment on this. I just can't stretch the budget to buy Ohlins which is a shame.
    Thanks

You can get a set of Ohlins for a grand,  just do some searching. The HD 159 seem to be a good shock that you can get for about a a grand.

I've one more question regarding HD Premium Shocks.
Apparently the 2017 shocks have more adjustment than previous versions. Will they fit?
According to part no's they won't but i don't see why not, they look identical but with more adjustment.
Part No. for older version is 54000008 and Part No. for later shocks as separate units is 54000093 54000094.
Does anyone know if they'll fit as i would rather buy later version if they have more adjustment
    Thanks

Damo i have the older version on my 2012 Street Glide. They are far better than the std but not in the same ballpark as ohlins etc. Have done around 60k on mine. What is the added adjustments you refer too....

It appeared to me that they had more adjustment. Anyway i've decided i'll get Race Tech G3S custom built shocks from Shock Treatment unless i find a real good deal on Ohlins shortly.

They guys at Shock Treatment know their stuff so you are certainly heading in the right direction, plus they setup the bike for you and your riding style.
