I have put a new set of bars on my 2012 Street Glide. I have got it all done and have power to everything except the run switch and starter button. It has me stuffed what's going on with it. I have been told it could be the ignition tumbler not in the right place. I have tried it and can only ever get the same result. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong. I've checked the fuses and they are all good. I swapped the relays around and that hasn't done anything. I don't think it's in the wiring as I have no power getting to the rear side of the plug where the handlebar wiring connects to. I think it might be in the ignition or are there other fuses hidden elsewhere.

Mate just looked at the wiring dia, it could be a plug, earth or a fuse next to the battery.

I don't think it's the plug or earth as yesterday it started but I had no throttle which is why I pulled it apart again. It's a fuckin stupid way HD designed the tbw setup. I broke the green plug getting the wiring back out so I just hard wired it. I don't think the issue is to do with the tbw as the bike should still start, it just wouldn't rev. I checked the fuses and relays in the fuse box, is there other ones as well.

I just googled 2012 throttle by wire diagram and found a page of answers including diagrams and step by step descriptions.

wouldn't the bike still start though as it's on a different loom isn't it. I'm just clutching at straws now to try and figure it out before I have to send it to a dealer to sort out.

Hi Hilly the wires look good at the switch and I am hoping it's something stupid I have missed

I think I will have to pull it all apart again just to check for damage.

If everything was ok before the bar change I would be starting again and checking the wiring..did you extend the harness ? Make sure if you pulled the pins from the plugs you haven't mixed them up when you reinstalled them..

Yeah double checked all the pins, it's got me stuffed.

gooday steve l,do you have a multimeter?if so proceed on.open up your switch block [r.h.s first] then go to the connectors at the other end of the bar harmess's and locate your corresponding colors to the start/ run wires and check continuity between the connector pins and switch terminals ,at each wire check, also check for short to ground [through the bars] and other wires in the same loom.hope this is of some help .cheers

Watched a video and a mechanic in us had a customer bike that either would not start or if it did it would not rev or run right. Showed the guy who installed the new bars had switched the two sets of wires from the throttle. The ones from the black conduit with the ones in the yellow, not saying you got it wrong just a thought, two sets of red, white and black wires. The green plug is also a common problem but you have eliminated that and that is where this guy had fucked up. How did you hard wire it solder or plugs, with only three wires check connectors or look for bad solder joint. Another issue if the bike doesn't rev was the sender on the throttle being slightly misaligned and although feels right it doesn't register. Obviously I am no expert just trying to help.

thanks very much for all the ideas, I will check tonight when I get home. When I turn the ignition on everything including the lights comes on. It's like the run switch is turned off in the on position. I used a fault light to test the wires and there is no power at the black/red wire or the white/black at the other side of the plug I removed. Most of the other wires lit up red.

Yeah I checked that, it's almost like a sensor isn't disengaging

Okay after having another look at the shitty wiring and plugs I went and bought all new stuff except for the indicator control wiring both sides. The left side is working fine so I'm leaving it alone. I bought a new TGS with extra long loom so the green plug will be in the fairing and not the bars. I also got a new loom that joins onto it so I know the fbw will not be the issue. I also got new plugs for both the left and right side handlebar looms. The good news is that I will have everything by the weekend except, this is the bad part, the black plug won't be in until about the 3rd of next month. I'm hoping I can dodge up the old one for a few weeks and then I can replace it. If not I don't ride for another 2 weeks. I also got 15" wiring extensions for the handlebar looms and the 8" ones don't give you enough to play with. All up $310 which I thought was pretty good. Knowing HD I expected the new TGS to be close to that.

You could bridge the plug before the bars and see if it starts?

Yeah once I get the other stuff sorted I will work something out

bars back on and sorted, it was the fbw loom that had a bad join. All good now with the longer new one installed.

Yeah it was a bugger of a job but thankfully it's sorted now.
