M8 Transmission oil transfer to Primary

Calling all M8 owners......
Has anyone bothered to check their transmission oil levels? There are multiple reports worldwide that at higher rpms (>4500), these bikes are transferring oil as the title suggests.
Mine seems fine but I don't really ride it too often at such high rpms. Could owners maybe check their trans dipsticks and report back?
Here are a few links to threads concerning this....

I have followed this issue closely over time, on both HD forum ( over 60000 views) and HTT(13 pages ). My M8 has this issue. My mates also has this issue. it astounds me that there are sooo many readers/ owners with this going on. Do we have the the name of the dealer that replaced the primary to achieve its outcome?
Other than this , the bike is great!

To be honest, how many people bother to check their gearbox oil between services?
Watching mine very closely. 4,000km since last service and is now half way down.
12,000 km ridden so far in total.

Not that long after the 8k service,I found the transmission oil not even registering on the dipstick,
I opened up a wire coat hanger and pushed it to the bottom of the tranny case,it had about 25mm of oil on it.
I was going to put the wire back in the transmission and mark the top of the case and compare it and the dipstick to where the dipstick sat on the case screwed down to see how much oil was actually there, but forgot..
I took the bike to the dealer for the recall of the oil cooler clamps and showed them, they refilled the transmission and I haven't had a problem since.
I have only taken the bike into the high rev range twice and both times it was for only brief periods (1-2 minutes) then backed off

So what's everybody's understanding on this?
Do you check the transmission oil on the bikes jiffy stand or when it's upright?

Hi China , my manual says the same as yours ... On side stand ... Told Dealer and they said for the Transmission to be upright and warmed up ... Asked why the difference and either they wouldn't or couldn't give me an answer .

As China said, manual states on sidestand, bike level and dipstick screwed in and just touching O ring then remove and check. Bitch of a thing to read. All good and 6500km's with mixed riding.

Aint got an M8 but very interesting dropin reading, not saying I do not want an M8..
There seems to be an obvious issue with oil. Must be minor issue as haven't heard a recall from anyone owning an M8? Veryyy interesting.

12,000 very hard km's on my M8 RoadKing now, in 4 months, and she hasn't used a drop of oil.
Must of run her in right.

The Motor Co have just released a Tech bulletin regarding this. People might be interested to see this may effect touring bikes back to 2014...

Hi Guys,
Checked my Transmission oil level today and it was LOW!
Oil comes up to the bottom of the checked area. Checked several times same result.
Rang the Dealer who denied any knowledge till I quoted TA 0022 service bulletin and then they asked for the bike to be brought to the dealership by Harley Assist as it shouldn't be ridden as it is.
Check my other post M8 engine oil consumption.
Not happy.

Hi Guys,
After finding the tranny oil level low at 4k ( bottom of checked area with oil hot on sidestand) I took it to the dealer who "checked the levels" and obviously topped it up. Has 7k on it now and hasn't used a drop riding at same speed 120/140 as normal. Guess time will tell.

Might be some encouraging news from the States - there has been a fairly pro active forum member there who modded his side cover and mainshaft lock nut incorporating a seal, he just finished some heavy dyno testing on his bike which transferred quite badly before the mod and is fairly confident the issue has gone - stay tuned.
Yes I know it's not a HD fix (yet) but hopefully some action will happen from the MoCo who I'm sure are watching with anticipation.

According to HD’s own press release, they put 100,000 plus test miles on the new motor. It would be interesting to know what percentage of bikes are effected. I know at least 20 people with them, and non are. Mine has covered 20,000km, has been dyno tuned twice, didn’t transfer a drop and doesn’t transfer under regular riding. Doesn’t use any engine oil either.
One thing is for sure - the M8 is a much stronger performer than my old twin Cam, and I for one wouldn’t go back for quids.

It’s good to be happy with what you’ve got Hilly. Ride on!
