Sena 20S headsets and helmet clamps

G'day all, considering upgrading the Aldi Bluetooth intercoms to the Sena 20S dual set for the 17 SGS, am also considering the Sena 20S helmet clamp to be able to use the voice commands on the boombox with or without the 20S attached. I know I will have to buy the harness from HD so I get the 7 pin plug for the rider and wished they made the kit available for rider and passenger - still no luck though.
So the question is - anybody using this set up and happy/not happy (apart from cost), or can recommend better options?
I had a look at the Sena Freewire - but it still has a lot of connections to achieve the same result as far as I can see? with the exception of wireless to the helmet.
I've got the standard HD manual and looked at the wiring needed to self fab something for double 7 pin connections and thought I had it sussed, so did a couple of guys in the states - unfortunately no go, possibly needs the passenger volume switch added along with activation by HD in the actual boombox? A bloke in Scotland managed to get his working, but never replied as to how.
HD used to offer the kit for rider/passenger, but no more.

    cheers

That cable is going to do the job, but for the rider only.
You need the Harley boombox adapter
and instructions. This guy has plenty of information on the Boombox
The only way I think you can have rider to passenger comms is via a bluetooth solution

I use the sena 20 and am happy with it. Lots of commands to learn. Haven't used it to communicate with other riders yet. Maybe the only downfall is the battery runs down with it sitting around. I have to put it on charge every week or two if I'm not riding.

I have Sean 20S and pretty happy with it. Find I only use it on longer rides, yet even if been sitting for weeks, the battery is still fine for a 400 km ride without a worry. Probably last 800???

I use the 20S on long trips between bikes, I do charge it the night before and each night of the trip
I use to plug in the I-Phone for the tunes but now just bluetooth.
when we go, it is generally 1000k to Cobar then north to N Qld or NE to Casino, lasts all day

I find the voice command a bit it and miss, some times I can say "hello Sena" for ever and she ignores me, I started calling the wife Sena for the same reason
taking calls are good, have never voice dialed, I am happy with it

Thanks for the replies gents. Will most likely have to save a few more pennies to buy the Sena set up and HD harness.

DG. Have a look at this thread. I made up an adapter cable to go from my existing 7 pin socket to my noname bluetooth headset. Means I can use the bluetooth on one bike, hardwired on the other. There's a PIN out diagram included. Anyway, you'll still need to get that harley wiring loom from the boombox to near the seat and I think having a wired solution to your passenger is going to be problematic.  I still can't talk to the missus on the ultra due to the exhaust volume. BUT, the music, phone, SIRI and harley voice commands work a treat.
Edit: I see they use a small USB plug on the unit. That may require additional research for wiring

thanks for the info steelo, I did read your post before and found it useful.
From what I gather if I buy the Sena headsets as well as the Sena helmet clamp for the 20S the only other thing I should need is the HD loom with the 7 pin plug for the rider so shouldn't need to make any cables - or are you saying I wouldn't need the helmet clamp set up (save some dollars) and could get by with possibly making a cable to plug straight into the 20S?

Looks like a complicated plug from bike to Sena. Going to need the loom in any case. You could TRY and jury rig a cable (some sort of USB) straight to your existing headset (ALDI) If that fails, then get the Sena headset. Looks like if you want to use the cable you have to get the special clamp model. Perhaps see if its available as a package.
