I wanna give a big shout out to JB Hifi.
(I have no association with them)
They announced that they will not cut there staffs penalty rates and will continue to pay their rates as normal.
    Good on them.
Because their doing that, i will purposely go to their shop to purchase goods when needed.
I hope that businesses that cut their staffs penalty rates go broke the miserable mongrels.
Particularly as the majority of retail stall are just young kids so to speak.
Hopefully, JB Hifis decision will cause their competitors to follow suit.

EDIT: I will still growl at their sales persons when I go in to buy electronic stuff because thats just what I do but I will still buy electronic gear there nonetheless. Might even let them sell me a new TV in a decade or two.

    +1.
Work Sundays etc, get paid more. I've earnt plenty extra during my working career this way. Let the market decide if the extra cost is worth opening penalty times.

Showing some respect/consideration for current employees stands out a bit more these days, unfortunately...

My working life is all but over. Looking forward to start travelling again. But I will say this: The younger generation working in retail (30 and younger, mostly teenagers) are not so overpaid with penalty rates that their lining up at Sydney auctions to buy waterfront mansions. In fact, most of the younger retail staff would be struggling to pay rent and electricity bills and are probably just scraping through from week to week. Hopefully labour will honor their pledge to reverse penalty rate cuts if they get in next time.
Younguns might want to think about that in the next election. Its all bullshit that employers will hire more staff with the phasing out of penalty rates. A year 10 kid studying accountancy and maths subjects should be able to do the sums and realize that crap by employers for themselves. Do the math boys and girls.
