Stock Header Pipes

    Hi All,
    Im sure this been covered before but I couldn't find anything specific when I searched.

    I was wondering how good or bad the stock headers are on a 103, are they good enough for standard cams. At the moment the bike just has the SE Night Stick slip-on and SE air filter mod. and I dont really want to do anything to the internals of the engine right now. I was wondering if fitting a better set of headers and a dyno tune would make any difference.

    I got 98hp & 109ft/lbs with stock headers & S&S slip on.  Only thing I did was that I bored the exhaust/flapper valve out so it free flowed on that pipe.

    stock headers and S&S slipons are one of the best preforming setups.

    Thanks for the advice.
    Yeah I have read something about a flapper valve and on the softail they have one on the inlet too.

    So the street bobs are straight through?

    Mine is a 2016, does that help or hinder?

    A mates 2016 Lowrider doesn't have the flappy valve as you called it and seems to run well with the Nightstick. Whatever you do, don't get lured into cutting out the CAT. The stock header isn't a 2 into 1 tuned system. Rather it's just a box to house the CAT and removing it will muddle the exhaust flow (the exhaust gas will slow down and expand to fill the empty CAT box, then it will have to be pressurised to speed up as it gets compressed again to flow out the single muffler) messy. A full Supertrapp would be good. 
    The Nightstick sure looks like a Supertrapp, (maybe under licence to HD?) does anyone know if there's a set of Supertrapp headers that will work with the Nightstick, would be a money saver.

    I'm 100% certain it's a Supertrapp with HD licensing. It does go well I had drag with a soft tail Breakout, Stage Two equivalent, mild cams, 2 into 2 big radius. We took it upto about 140kms and he was really no quicker then me. 
    I just want to make sure I'm getting 100% out what I currently have without spending to much and my wife killing me.

    Yeah I guess it does Ratbob, it just is surprising that's how it came from HD dealership, SE tuner, intake and slipon. Obviously they seem to make it all work ok. But reading a lot of forums the SE stuff isn't as good as other product brands, or people seem a bit adverse to the brand.

    iv recently picked up a 2013 fat bob stock headers with the rush slipons that were on the bike,i know theres a cat in them and there is that flap on it as well ,I'm happy with the sound of it not really into the real loud pipe thing,  I don't really want to throw a 1000+ to pick up bugger all torque and hp,would they be worth cutting the cat out and playing around with or are these headers  not worth the hassle ?

    Yeah my thinking is that the Ultra and Street glide run 2 into 2 systems vs the Lowrider 2 into 1 so the exhaust gas doesn't have to be compressed/sped up again to exit via one pipe.  With the Ultra and Street Glide, once the gas is past the collection point, CAT in or out it has a free flow via two exits. 
    That said when I removed the CAT from a Wideglide header system running it with modified SE Slipons on a 110 Fatbob, the bike felt far less responsive.  Welding an internal plate within the CAT box to recreate two individual pipes, then getting it ceramic coated, sharpened it up again.  I figured it helped maintain exhaust gas temperature and flow rate.
