    I am always scepticle around the new evidnce, what do prosecutors do, lets just use this much and if that dont get a conviction, we'll throw this in too

    Sherpa in Australia we practice "English common law" and the fundamental principal of the system is......"Innocent till proven Guilty". In this matter he was found to be by definition "Not guilty and therefore innocent"
    Its the Crowns job to provide the evidence beyond reasonable doubt to secure the conviction. The conviction was overturned unanimously 7-0 and don't forget they just need a majority not unanimous decision

    James i agree that a second shot at this is highly unlikely for the range of matters you've outlined. If this witness has some compelling smoking gun evidence that is water tight you would have thought that he owed it to the other alleged victims or the public at large during the Royal commission.

    Your possibly correct but in the absence of any credible evidence the law says he is not. And as a result of his jailing its going to cost us SHIT LOADS in compensation

        Shine Lawyers is progressing a civil claim on behalf of the father of a former altar boy who alleged he was sexually abused by         George Pell.

        The Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne is also listed as a defendant in this matter.

        The claim will continue against the church and whatever estate Pell has left behind.

        A civil trial likely would have provided the opportunity to cross examine Pell, and truly test his defence against these allegations.

        There is still a great deal of evidence for this claim to rely on, and the court will be asked in due course to make its ruling on that evidence.

    Not a fan of Dan Andrews but will give him credit for not agreeing to a state funeral out of respect to the many victims of sexual assault at the hands of the church. Also love this headline. Wonder how long before they are forced to take it down.
