Big radius 2 - 2 fitment issues

Has anyone else experienced issues fitting the top pipe (rear cylinder) of the V&H Big Radius 2 into 2 pipes.
As shown in the pic, the top pipe bracket slots do not align with the mounting holes in the bracket on the bike.
I had to grind out the slots by 7mm (area shown in black) just to get the bolts through, left no margin for adjustment unless I cut clean through the bracket.

I contacted V&H, sent them the pics etc and they sent me a replacement pipe, no questions.
    Problem is, it's no different.
Any ideas/suggestions.  Bike is a CVO Fatbob, don't think the 110 engine should be an issue.

Don't think so, I usually dry clean it.

i had the exact same issue with the 2-2 big radius on my sportster. had to file out the holes to be a bit wider as you've done too. didn't think to contact v&h

I have a set in the Shed that I removed from my 103 2013 Fatbob when I changed the system to a 2:1 Supertrapp.

I'll have a look in the morning, but I don't recall the bracket looking like it had been "Modified".

However I'm not sure if the mounting bracket that bolts onto the transmission was the STD Harley one or one that came with the V&H pipes, as I didn't fit the pipes.

Is the transmission bracket you are using the standard Harley one, this is for my own information as I have my pipes listed on Gumtree and don't want to sell the bracket if it is part of the original system.

    Hi Ken
The V&H bracket is a sort of Z shape flat plate, pretty crappy really compared with the cast HD unit pictured.

OK that's not the bracket I removed of mine, it was black and basically a tube with a 2 holed tab on it fitted vertically on the fore and aft tube that mounted to the gearbox.

I had a look, no modifications by the look, the slots are symmetrical and are the same on both pipes mate.

Not trying to insult you by asking this question, but did you leave it all a bit loose when you tried to mount it up ?

Thinking it might be a misalignment issue (with the bracket maybe) rather than a defective pipe and bracket especially since you say the replacement pipe is the same.

Can you post a photo of the V&H bracket, would like to compare it with the one I have.

The Supertrapp system P clamp mounted to different rear holes in the gearbox then the one the V&H used as well, but I'm guessing yours came with instructions :)

    Cheers

    Hi Ken
The gearbox cover mounting bracket gives about 1mm of play so no I didn't leave it loose. You also need to tourque the bolts correctly which I couldn't do with the pipes in place. The next thing is that the mounting slots on the pipe (for me anyway) are out of alignment by 11mm so it's way off.
Sorry I can't send a pic of the bracket as it's on the bike but if you google Vance and Hines Big Radius Dyna you can download the install instructions and one pic shows the bracket.
These are popular pipes so I would have thought they'd be an easy sale. Are you getting enquiries?

Yeah sorry didn't think about tightening them up, and if it is still out when loose, not sure what is going on.

Mine looked pretty well lined up when I took em off, bolts in the pipe were a little to one side off centre looking at the marks on the pipe brackets.

Yes they are very popular pipes, I just took mine off and fitted the Supertrapp system for a couple of reasons, one was performance over the V&H pipes, the other was the volume of noise they make and the draconian hoon laws we have up here.

What are Vance and Hines saying about it ?

I just had a look at the mounting instructions, and better have another look at the bracket I removed, I only glanced at it when I looked at the pipes this morning.

Not sure if that is what mine looks like now ;(

Get back to you tomorrow sometime.

No, no nibbles as yet mate.

Sorry mate I didn't get a chance to have a look at that bracket today.

I'll do it first thing in the morning.

Het Ratbob, had a look and the mounting bracket is the same as the fitting instructions, I'm guessing I described the P-Bracket for the Supertrapp system (I'm getting Old and confuse easily I guess).

So that stuffs that theory as well.

Um not sure what to say now.....

    Hi Ken
Nothing wrong with having a Seniors moment, long as it doesn't become a lifestyle.

Thanks for your info, I'm getting back in touch with V&H again soon. No complaints just trying to understand why neither headers fit.

    Cheers
