Speedo/Tacho to suit 1996 Dyna Wide Glide (FXDWG) - Any recommendations/reviews?

My bike has a MPH speedo. Most of the time I am pretty quick at converting KPH/MPH in my head while riding, but this can be a little tiring especially when riding in unfamiliar territory where a multitude of varying speed limit signs occur!
Has anyone had any experience with an after-market speedo/tacho unit (analog or digital) to suit my Dyna model (1996 FXDWG) that they could recommend/review? Am looking for something that would mount into existing console for a straight swap (I have located the extra wire for the tacho input).

have a look at my write up review on a Dakota digital unit I fitted . 6 months on and I still can't sing enough praise on the product. check them out they do a gauge for your model as well

With the gear indicator, the one thing I've noticed is when you pull up to stop sign in first gear and stop it will then read "0 "gear. When you engage the clutch to move off it then changes into 1st. It doesnt bother me though. The other thing I really like is that it learns your fuel range. The standard softail fuel gauge is well known to be inaccurate and even when I updated to the LED lighted one it didn't improve. With the Dakota you can set when the LO fuel light comes on,and it gives you an estimate of how many KM's to empty. If any doubt chuck them an email

Fair enough with the gear indication anomaly, would be no problem for me either - just would be great to have a gear indicator on a '96 wide glide!
The fuel range learning 'kms till empty' would be quite handy.
I'll also write a review once installed for a little while.
    Thx for your info FT.

Not yet chopa, but it's next up on my list (a long list that my wife isn't aware of).
I can see you have a model maybe same year as mine (mine '96), so I'll let you know how I go with fitment etc.

I have an original 96/98 speedo (klms) off a softail if you are interested.  Bought it for my 99 but the speedo's changed.  Apparently in good  condition with low klms (unknown). Price negotiable as it is just going to sit on a shelf.

I'm set on giving the Dakota unit a go evo, especially with the extra features like tacho & gear indicator etc. All reviews I find are quite complimentary also.
Not really fussed about keeping this bike original (gone way too far away from that already).
    Thanks anyway.

In regards to EasyR, they are absolutely fantastic. I've used them half a dozen times . As an interstate buyer I was impressed by their willingness
to help and advise. Their over the phone manner gives you just a taste of the fast service and postage you like to expect.Shop with confidence
for sure. Shit I should be a salesman

hey well done, If I remember correctly it was a fellow called Wayne that looked after me, absolutely great service. You will love the dakota and it is super easy to install. I think I mentioned that I got mine from the USA and saved myself plenty.I got the blue as well to match the LED fuel gauge.
    enjoy

Been for a few rides with this speedo, great piece of kit. Gives me many features I didn't previously have - speed in kph or mph (only had mph before), two trip meters, rpm, gear indicator, voltage (with low-volts warning), clock, 1/4 mile time & more. Has an easy to read display.
