Too much oil?

    Gents,
Had the bike serviced, all fluids changed, Heavy Breather filter cleaned and oiled.

I noted some extra red oil coming off the filter element which I presumed was over oiled by a muppet. But now I've checked the engine oil level -- cold, the oil goes all the way up the dipstick marking to where you want the hot to be. The hot is above the markings. I wiped the dip stick clean between viewings. I've read the manual.

Would it be correct to assume that my engine oil has been over filled, and some is coming out through the air cleaner?

If this is correct, how much of an issue is this for the engine ... and/or is it a priority to drain some engine oil out?

    Cheers.

Yep too much oil. drain some out so it is one marking below the hot max level when the oil is hot.

Yes over full. It pumps it out thru the breathers that run into your a/cleaner.

Red oil, is filter oil, 98% likely. reference to muppet is also 98%likely

I'm not backing the engine oil level.

Thanks all. I will fix the air filter mysel, taking it off and cleaning it to see what is coming up. And will look to drain some oil. Not happy.
Yep H&H my Dyna manual is the same -- cold is 1/2 way up the stick.

I'm watching the tran plug too. Some oil on it. Wiped it clean but if anything like the above they may have found a way to stuff that up too. Glad I haven't done any big km's lately.

Red oil dripping down is usually just an over coating of K&N air filter oil after they hopefully washed and cleaned it in the first place. Of course if they are dodgy they might not have cleaned it at all and just sprayed more finishing oil on it to make it look like it's been serviced??????

Your engine oil can find it's way to the air filter if overfilled but the engine oil aint red!!!

Next time go to Supercheap and buy yourself a filter cleaning and re-oiling kit for just $23.55. You can then service your own filter - takes just minutes and you know it's been done correctly. One kit does several services.
