Guy is over the top but pictures are ok if skip shit.
How the fuck am I gunna do this on the road, beside calling HD peoples? Fuck me dead.
Don't need to change, but like to see how to do, must be an emergency belt that can splice together for em in emergency, with fencing wire....

For the home mechanic,, it is a bit over the top ... A few specialty tools are required .... If you do have a belt break on the road ,, its basically a pickup to a dealer or indy, and not much change out of 500- 600 ,, unless you ride with a mobile mechanic... And on a older bike , be prepared for more costs, as some components in the primary will know doubt need replacing ....
If you are pro active , and want to replace belt, and you have the time,, and your mates have the specialty tools,, its not a bad job to bond with your bike , learn about all the parts etc,, and the satisfaction of doing the job,, if your that type of person ...... Some are,, some are not..

Definitly not a job you can do on the side of the road ... had a belt let go on me on a ride from Brisbane to Glen Innes a couple of years back on my 08 Softail ... about 10 k`s out side of Tennterfield she decide to say Bye Bye ... one of the guys rode close to me pushing on the rear peg just to get into town ... a bit freaky having never done that before but got in there fine .
The guys hung around awhile .. { 12 other bikes } .. but we had bookings they had to get to , so i told them don`t worry i was sorted ... this is the best advice i can give any Harley rider who enjoys the outback Aussie Country rides .
Get yourself the Top Cover RACQ or corrasponding breakedown service from your State .. { do a little research into which one is better } ... did not cost a cent to have the old girl picked up as well as myself and the missus and taken back from Tennterfield back to my front door ... quite a few hundred K`s ... yes there is a bit of waiting around for the Truck to arrive but it is worth it , besides as i was not riding the Pub came in handy to drown my sorrows , Lol .
A tad embarrasing haveing the pride and joy being haulded home on the back of a full size car toe truck but far better that than leaveing her on the side of the road while i worked out someway to get all the way home then back down again with some sort of trailer .
Have used the same service when my 99 Springer blew the whole Electrical system about 6 months back now when i was up in Coloundra and again no cost from there to where i live ... out west of Ipswich towards Toowoomba .
Another couple of pieces of advice , learn how to put your bike into Transport mode if it is a modern Harley ... i didn`t and had to stop pretty well straight away and attach my Fob to the bike so the Lights and alarm would stop going off ... the last piece of Advice is if you have a modern Harley with the Big Back Wheels and Small 19 mil wide rear belt DO NOT BUY CHEAP SHIT after market belts .
I had BDL aftermarket belt on that i had saved about 200 bucks on over the Genuine articale previously when i was getting some susspension work done and i had a small stone in my original belt so i thought i would swap it out while the rear end was being worked on ... now it may have been a freak occurance but i have since put back on the Genuine parts and have not had any issue ... Touch Wood .
There is apparently some sort of staple you can buy if you notice a small tear in your belt that might get you home if you catch it in time but i have not seen them anywhere and you will be able to tell from the attached pic that there was no amount of staples that was going to help me out when my belt let go , Lol .

Not likely much use unless it's a very clean break .

Thanks fellas for the reply. I guess recheck my comprehensive insurance as to assist a pickup if required, though I hate rely on any one..
Had a bloody chain go fly over my head once on 1100 Katana, found link, luckily and small number fence wire on the road. Got me to work. The Texas joiner, hmm, wonder if you get a free gun with purchase.

Not sure if they still make them but in the early days of the current belt drives Harley sold an emergency belt that had a long diagonal split and was assembled with long grub screws through the teeth.
Yup. Still do.
