1997 Wide Glide sissy bar question

Hi all. Thinking of swapping out the original sissy bar and pad for a taller bar and pad on my 1997 Wide Glide.
Harley don't seem to do a tall sissy bar anymore, so I have been looking around other suppliers websites.
The bars I have found are 6 3/4" or 6 11/16" wide at the outside of the legs.
The existing bars on my WG measure 6 3/4".
I have found a sissy bar I like but it measures 6 7/8".
It says it fits the my model bike, but don't want to get it over from the USA only to find it's 1/8" too wide.
My question is, do the side plates have any flex?
Do you need to loosen off the side plates to replace a sissy bar or should it just slide in?
Thanks in advance.

I agree, a tight fit is always good!
The thing is, the side plates are behind the fender struts so it seems i couldn't shim them out.....unless there is give in the fender struts?
Would there still be enough flexibility in the side plates to accommodate the extra 1/8" if there is no give in the fender struts?

I bought a genuine Harley 12" high sissy bar and detachable sideplates for my 1996 Wideglide from Gold coast harley about 3 years ago. Seems strange they don't do them anymore

I have had a good look at the usa harley davidson parts and accessories website plus the Australian HD parts and accesories catolouge, and neither has anything for a 97 wide glide except one sissy bar...and it's the one that's on my bike now. I've emailed the spares guy at the local HD dealer on friday just to double check.
Having said that, im wanting either a 16" or 20" bar. I have found one but it's 1/8" too wide at the legs. Don't want to get it here from the usa only to find it wont fit. It's 6 7/8". My existing bar is 6 3/4".

Got it all sorted now. The sideplates are on the inside of the fender struts in most of the photos I have seen of stock wide glides from that era unless it's the quick mount system. I could have moved them to the outside but I like the look the way they are....plus in the photos Chopa put up of the sissy bar with the quick mount system, the rear blinkers are set further back....didn't want to go to all the trouble of relocating them etc. Turns out after speaking with the local Harley spares guy that they only do the low medallion style sissy bar for that year model now...which is what was already on it.
I decided to go with a genuine HD 16" sissybar and tall backpad I found on Gumtree. Perfect fit in the sideplates. Decided to add a Willy G medallion. Here it is all done.
