I have a M8 107 Heritage, love the bike. I used to ride a 2013 Heritage with the 110" stage 3 kit in it, and unless you ride hard it was a bit of a pig.
The new bike is smooth plenty of power and handle in the twisty like no other model before except dyna's.
This  week I am getting a stage 2 TQ installed. then I will post the results.

The lads at Harbour City HD Gladstone built my 120cube m8 and all I can say is exactly what I wanted big low down torque, run in tune went around 129hp , 135ft lb.
Perfect street combo, 100kmh at 2200rpm.
Hit that throttle and will have no problems overtaking anything quickly on the high way.

G'day fellow owners of the new M8 powered tourers. I thought I would start a thread just for these motors.

I have only had mine for 2 weeks now, and am finding it hard to like the mother.

These motors are way to smooth and after riding my 110 Softail around, this Roadking feels like a sewing machine.

I hope a few thousand Km's will change my opinion, but if not, this one will not last long in my shed.

    What are other owners experiencing?

Thanks for starting this thread. I have enjoyed reading all the comments, and am pleased for you that you are enjoying your motorcycle as the kilometers tick over.

I'm new to Harley Davidsons. Never understood why the owners are so different to other riders. Always thought that it was a nostalgic bike, iconic really. Who doesn't remember being in the back of the car as a child and hearing a Harley filter through traffic on the highway. Or lying in bed at night and hearing a Harley go through all it's gears, in the distance. That distinctive sound connects us with the past. It's as comforting as a classic song. Took me a while to understand the attraction of owning one. Forty years of riding motorcycles and I'd never even ridden a Harley.

But now I have time to do some serious riding, and an appetite to be on the road, I looked for eight months to find the one. It came down to two brands BMW and Harley. They could not be more different in every way possible. Technology vs Visual appearance. I am a fairly practical person and technology was going to win out over looks every time. But I kept going back to the Harley dealer and found it incredibly friendly. I still couldn't understand the attraction, and people's obsession with colour, and kit upgrades, and accessorizing it. I found all the literature in the brochures tailored to myth and vanity, and thought it was a simple man's machine. They just seemed to heavy, and too impractical. As I spent hours in the shop I saw a young guy buy his girlfriend one and the absolute delight on her face, as it was a surprise. I was expecting a proposal. An expensive gift of a present. Then I saw an old bloke come in who soon was telling his story to the salesman. Wife had died, and he had downsized his house and had some money left over and always wanted a Harley. He signed up for a Softail Slim.

I was about to buy the  BMW R1200 GS, and had even started putting offers in. But I decided to hire a Street Glide 103 for the day. First time on a Harley. Oh brother, it was like coming home. That bike was made for me. So smooth, and a level of comfort I never knew existed. It changed my whole riding style. Speed and lane filtering were out, and instead cruising, gliding, and presence on the road were in. I've never ridden a motorcycle that belongs on the road and among cars like it. It has a presence and a joy, that people understand and respect. The following day I bought the Road King FLHR 107. I didn't test ride it, I've never ridden one, but I know instinctively that is the most beautiful machine I have ever seen. I pick it up next week, and all I've been doing is 2018 part and accessories directory working out my expenditures over the next few years.

    I finally understand.

Good stuff Moss, I'm in the same spot as you and loving the Harley with the M8.
Has anyone relocated the engine breather outside of the air cleaner, if so was it a DIY or a kit you used? I just had a look and found some oil inside the air cleaner and oil residue leading into the throttle body.

    Thanks in advance

Hi Moss, being an old Harley rider I’m a bit slow but finally read your post, as Fatbat said you summed it up well. Very fucking well.
The BMW GS is a great bike, go anywhere, handles beautifully, carries heaps of luggage, reliable etc etc but it lacks soul.
I had one for a while, not mine but looked after it for a mate while he was overseas, it did everything I asked of it accept bring a smile.
    You chose wisely. Cheers.

I'm in the process of doing an engine breather now. After putting on an S&S air cleaner I noticed so much oil was going into the filter it was leaking out the bottom onto my pipes and engine making a big mess. DK custom products have some great kits but I'm going the DIY route.

Yeah I liked the DK Customs stuff but I think I can sort it myself, just need a decent catch can, ideally with a breather. I've got a few ideas for the tubing to exit the air cleaner, just need the can/breather.
Went to Bursons to see what they had today, fuk all as it turns out. Golan make a decent looking one, few guys complaint the chrome comes off tho.
Shoot me a PM if you like, we can compare notes.....

    Hi all
This is a question to you lads that have put the se torque cam in the 107 m8.
Why did you go that way and not the power cam?
    Are you happy with it.
Do  you know or have heard any stats on  the power cam.
Cant find too much about it.
I know there are plenty of other cams out there but m in the same boat warranty wise .
Im on a street glide and do a like riding the hills and do bit of freeway riding .
Any info you throw at me would be great.

Don't have one myself but Lofty put the power cam in his RK and reckoned it was great, heavy bike as it is and with the warranty concern that's probably your best bet.

Yeah copy, mate the torque cam, and I use that term loosely, will pull that heavy bike off the line and go well till 4500-5000rpm, the power cam will be a bit softer off the line and come into its band a bit later and carry a bit further, you can have 100torque off the line and run out the back end but that can be big bucks if that's your poison.

    Hi Lucky,
I did the Torque cam as I did a power cam in my sporty and was never really happy with it as the usable power is up the top end of the rev range. So in the M8 107 I went the torque cam and its great. I'm on a breakout.  I find I never really rev it out and it pulls hard of the line and keeps going. I find I mostly change gear around 4-4.5 revs but on occasions will go to 5.5. You can be in any gear and twist it and it just pulls.  Have a few friends with M8's and they all went the Torque cam and all very happy with the ride.

Looks as though everyone  ive spoke to or heard from has gone down the road of the torque cam.
I definately dont want to loose anything off the bottom.
Is the run out up top ok or do you really feel it drop off.
Its only really hills riding where im looking for it to hang in a bit longer.
Going by what youve said looks like its the way to go .

Na you hardly notice it. But like I said before I tend to change before 5 most of the time anyway. There are some good videos on You tube like this one that go over the different cams, so if you search for the cams your thinking about there seems to be a fair bit of info around.

Yeah searched plenty mate but cannot find anything at all on the SE power cam other than what the parts book tell you.
Seems everyone has gone torque cam.
Plenty of good cams out there but only have a choice of 2  SE cams to keep the warranty.
