Hope you have as good an experience as I have had with my 2018 replacement . . . maybe it was just a glitch in some of the 2017 motors?

Hey JamesJ update appreciated, as am wathcing with much trepidation and final outcome.
Hmmm, me thinks sometimes basic was so good, but seriously, what you guys have got are 5 star HD"s look the goods, paid for the goods, perform as a 2018 motorcycle should but are they up to the benchmark, re: pass on to someone when ya fucked?
Am waiting and looking, "I like to watch", before any plunger.
Keep as in the loop bloke, thanks.

Very interesting . . . can I ask what air cleaner you have?

My reason for asking is that I was told sumping only occurred on stage IV and V motors and that my problem was the stage 1 air cleaner.
The bike was replaced after a bit of too-ing and fro-ing but I would be interested to know which cleaner you have. Thankfully my replacement has been running perfect and I am very happy with it now at just over 15,000k.

Quoting Proffesor on 09 Jun 2018 07:46 AM

Screaming Eagle stage 1 air cleaner, i am not a hard rider either, only have 4 points left on licence, get them back same time warranty runs out.

    Quoting JR888 on 09 Jun 2018 08:53 AM

Thanks, just as I thought. Mine was the same cleaner which they tried to tell me was the issue. That was before the second re-build and Harley Australia finally replacing the whole bike with an MY18.

Just goes to show, you don't need to cop the BS from dealerships if you know it ain't right.

Well its now nearing 5 weeks and still no new engine, dealer believes they will get it tomorrow, the bike has been off the road for over 7 weeks now.
Harley Davidson needs to re evaluate its balance between giving their share holders a bigger return and giving their customers a product that is fit to do what it is claimed to do.
A strong brand name will keep them going for a while, but if they keep providing sub standard product, their sales will certainly take a nosedive, social media is very powerful today.

As this is the M8 owner’s thread, thought I’d put it on the record that I now have 24,500km on my 17 Road King and it’s been absolutely trouble free. Great bike.

Just hit 16,000 on my RoadKing, and it is running better than ever. does not use a drop of slippery stuff, and still gets over 400km's to a tank of juice.
This stage 2 Torque kit is awesome.

Totally agree, this new one has been faultless. It's just a shame I had to have that lemon as it did take the shine off things there for a while. It's no fun paying so much for a bike that spends more time in the workshop than on the road.
At least HD Aus finally came to the party and gave me one that I am really enjoying. I too am coming up to 16,000klm of happy riding experience with that awesome torque cam. Such a pleasure to ride, and the response when you crack open the throttle . . .

my leg's in a splint and I'm on crutches;weird feeling having a great bike in your carport that you can't ride!
You call that an excuse for not riding? I'm sure there's a way!

That’s why I too just went with a full stage 2 with Torque Cam. Too many reports of the bigger builds (non stock so Stage 3/4) sumping which kills your motor or other issues with the bigger sleeves. With 119 ft lbs I’m happy enough! I also have an extended 5 year warranty, just in case..........

Hey Lofty, is your's the 107 or the 114?  I've just picked up a 107 breakout and want to do cams, so interested in what cams you got?

Hi Adrian, I don't know about Lofty's bike but mine is the 107 with the same (torque) cam and it is great. I was speaking with a guy who went for the power cam and reckons it is crap, no response when you need - it for overtaking. Hope that helps.

Cheers, spoke to Harley in Ringwood and they said pretty much the only cam they have used so far is the 585 but interestingly no dyno results yet.  Could mean people are taking elsewhere to Dyno them ,which is what I'll be doing.  Also asked them about using aftermarket cams and they pretty much said no warranty on the cam and any damage it could do, so reading into that they will blame the cams for any failure and you will have to prove otherwise.

Finally got my Road King back with a new motor fitted, picked it up last Friday, took it down to our monthly HOG BBQ on saturday, all happy until someone asked about the oil under my bike, they sliced the orting seal on the starter motor putting it back in, all fixed now. Has anyone noticed any difference with the replacement motors, this one has more vibration and definitely has a deeper exhaust note.

When they gave me the MY18 I noticed a deeper note in the exhaust (my old system swapped over from the MY17) but thought that was due to Heavy Breather which they gave me. Sweet deal, they wouldn't give me the new bike unless I took it with the Heavy Breather.
Can't say I noticed any vibration though.
