Mornin' hope someone can help shed some light on this.
I have recently purchased this bike.
2004 Sportster with 1200 conversion, S&S slip-ons, air filter and I would assume a re tune to have all this running how it is now.
The bike is obnoxiously loud and after a long highway ride today Im really keen to dampen the sound a little.
Any advice on the best way to go about this?
    - New Slip ons?
    - Add baffles? Will it need a re tune if I add baffles? At this stage I would prefer to add baffles instead of changing the slip-ons.

    Any input appreciated cheers.

    Well this is brilliant news.
I'll have a hunt around and see what my options are from here.
    Thanks again.

After a little more research Im going to try and go the baffle route.
Of course, I cant find a baffle specifically for the S&S Pipes I have.
    Would this product fit? https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-quiet-baffle-for-harley-metric#shipping_returns_tab
    Pictures are my S&S Slip-Ons.

    Cheers.

Speaking from my situation i got a dyno tune done when i put in my baffles
If you have a canned tune i reccomend a dyno tune

Thanks, suprisingly there are baffles in the pipes. Im going to pull them out this weekend and see if I can wrap them in some way to try and dampen them as much as possible. Any tips for this?
Ive seen guys use the exhuast wrap thats made for the outside of the pipe instead of the baffle material. Is this a big no?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks again.

    hey mate
using baffle packing for muffers is the best , using motocross stuff is meant to be good.

that being said a good tune will also make a difference , my tuner Brian at eastern big twin done a great job on my bike ( yes its EFI ) however the tune he done made my sportster with short shot and quiet baffles much quiter than the other sporties riding around .

    all the best with it

I heard that the S & S tapered muffles are not as loud , supprised to hear the ones you have are loud especially them being slip on mufflers .

I'd be asking the business if a baffle fits and how much quieter they make the slip on - they have sold a few so should have some knowledge.

Got sent home from work because of this weather in SE QLD so I'm having a crack at repacking the baffles myself. Got them out fairly easy and the fibreglass was burnt to shit. Fell apart in my hands so I'm hoping the new stuff will do the trick.
Looking at these baffles I don't think they're ever going to do that much?

    Ok, re packed and running.
I measured the decibels from 6ft behind the bike at idle.
The volume went from 111db to 95db.
does anyone else have a comparison?
I'm pretty pleased with the sound but I am considering new slip ons. I guess another long ride will give me a better idea. Thanks for the help on this simple one.

ive got the tapered S&S slip ons and the internal baffle i see in your picture looks exactly the same however the tapered do not have any 'removable baffle'
I think the tapered end  tones them down a little more compared to the more open ended slash cuts
mine measure about 92-93 Db at idle but I did notice that they seemed to get quieter over time from when I first put them on. I reckon its the carbon buildup in there dampening the sound waves against bare metal surface and the note now is a real deep bass sound
