I am on my 3rd Harley and have found them all wanting in the rear shock department,so when I got my latest 07 FLHRC I rode it for a short while before I decided I wantd to change it a little,so I bought the lowered 12" air shocks that Harley sell. The same as fitted to the FLHRS.This was a bifg mistake as it made the ride extremely harsh and lead to the wife complaining about her back, which is why we got the Roadking and got rid of the Heritage I had previously. After reading an article in HEAVY DUTY about IKON shocks,I decided to find out more for myself.I contacted Geoff Lowe at Proven Products to discuss what I was after and look at what IKON had to offer. After talk about what type of riding I do and the general what sort of bike it was,I was asked what sort of weight the bike would carry as well as riders and pillion weights. As I wanted the rear of my bike lowered,a suggestion was made as to the type and lenght of shock I would require as well as to the spring rate.I agreed and was surprised when I was told that they could have them in Sydney for me the next day.I decided that the end of the week would suit me better.and they were on my doorstep on time.Fitting was easy and after taking an initial ride of about 160km was impressed by the difference that they made to the bike.I have since made a couple of more rides 1 up and the difference is amazing,I have found that I get no jarring in the spine, and that the bike is able to maintain much higher speeds on curves, and isn't upset mid bend by bumps or what they tell us is our quality N.S.W. roads.I then went out with the wife on the back. After adjusting the shocks to the pillion setting, which took 2 minutes with the tool provided,my wife usually finds it hard to ride more than 100km without her back hurting,so we were pleasantly surprised when we covered 240km and only stopped for something to eat.The 1st thing my wife said was "What a difference"it was like riding on a cushion compared to the original and the lowered Harley shocks.Again the handling was greatly improved and it really made this machine more of a pleasure to ride than it already was.
And before anyone asks NO I have nothing to do with IKON or Proven Products or have anything to gain
I am just a really happy Harley rider that appreciates quality

nobody,
That's a great bit of info, it seems they are Aussie owned as well. I found this link after doing a quick search:

Been thinking of lowering the Sporty at some stage I will definately keep the IKON shocks in mind.
The shocks that I have fitted to my Roadking are actually 11 9/16" in length and made for the sporty, they are different internally now and have a different spring for the addded weight of the Roadking. They are basically an Australian mad Koni shock.hence IKON.The story of how they came about on their website is quite interesting. If you like engineering type stories.
HI there,
I have a 99 RK classic and was having similar issues with the ride. I first had a shock rebuilder in Brisbane work over the original Showas without any success ( in fact they were worse). Then after some research settled on fitting some IKON shocks. They are fantastic , no more bottoming out , less wobble in fast sweepers and simple to adjust. I have also stripped the forks and changed the oil and discovered the fork springs are dual rate (not sure if that is a standard fitment) and fitted a ridestr8 stabiliser and axle spacer kit. The bike now tracks straight in any corner at speed both solo and pillion. I used to like riding the King but now I love it !

Thanks great post,
I have been meaning to get new rear shocks for the granny glide for a while now. Was leaning towards Progressive suspension items for no particular reason. But I have read about Ikon in a well known Australian mag.
They also have a very informative web site, might give them a go in the near future myself..
I am still on the standard Dunlops at the moment, and I run them at 34psi in the front and 36psi in the rear.On my other Harleys fitted with Avons I have always run them at a max pressure of 42psi even when loaded.
Hey rt
I made a post about Fournales a while ago,and also on the U.S. site and they didn't want to believe that anything could be better than their U.S. made Progressive shocks.I wanted Fournales but at the time the price was prohibitive. So I got what I consider the best shock for the price that I could with the IKON.If you think Fournales transform a Roadking, you should see what they do to a Softail
And Bertrand is a nice guy to boot.
Hey squeeech
I have found the Ikons to be just what I was looking for.I went from the standard 13" harley air shocks,to the 12" Harley air shocks, and found they were just not up to the conditions we find on our roads, might be ok on nice smoothe wide roads in the U.S. But the rebound and dampening is miserable for our conditions, and I tried all sorts of pressure combinations, and it was still Crap.Since changeing over to the Ikons,I have been extremely happy, and better still,my wife has been even happier. She never used to be able to travel more than about 100km even with a nice big seat, without complainig about her lower back hurting and wanting to get off.....a real pain when you are riding with a group of others. Now she is able to stay on untill we need to fuel up or more likely nature calls......bloody women.........how do I find something to get more mileage between nature stops?
If you ring Proven Products and tell them what sort of bike you have and your riding style, and your weight, and passengers weight if you carry a pillion, and if you carry other stuff regularly, they will work out spring rates and valving etc that should suit you,and I think they are great value, compared to others I have used and others I have seen others use......But that is my opinion only, and I make that judgement only base on the fact that I have probably had my arse in the seat for over 500,000km over the years and I know what feels good to me
Hey motorhead, I put ikon shocks on my 07 king, had the same on my old fxrs. I cant fault them, its like riding a completely different bike. Good aussie made shocks--use to be the old koni till they were bought out hence the similar name took the I from the arse and put it in the front koni-ikon. Have also put a set of 1kg constant rate springs and race tech gold valve emulators that i got from shock treatment in the front forks. Bike handles like a dream.
cheers Grimster
hey skin72au, been sleeping will see if i can find price and model numbers for the ikons i put on my 07 kingi
