Harley Engine Numbers help

G'day all, I have a custom 89 Softail from the US that was previously registered in South Australia, and nothing on the bike is standard, I'm about to register it in Victoria but the engine number does match the south Australian rego papers (Engine change). My issue is that I cannot find any reference to the strange engine numbers on the internet ie: starts and ends with a Star (Asterix represents the star) *BLLK01234X* (I have taken out the actual 4 numbers and added 1234 for security reasons).........I was told the engine is a 103cub evo. Has anyone seen these numbers before, and if the engine number hasn't been used in Australia before am I in for trouble at the RTA ?

Generally if you have proof that the bike has been previously registered in another state then most times in Victoria you'll be ok (subject to RWC requirements).
But if the engine number doesn't match the registration record then you'll need to have a reason why it doesn't (engine failure and swap, that sort of thing, replaced with later motor from same manufactuer etc).
They may ask for evidence that this happened (receipts etc).
Also if the engine is larger than the previous engine it can create issues (an engineer may be needed).

Oh and if you have to get someone to inspect the bike then you'll probably also have to get a VASS certificate.
