Clutch cable adjustment gone wrong on 883 IRON

    Hi all,

~~Got myself or my bike in a bit of trouble. I'm normally somewhat mechanically savvy so i attempted to service my 2010 Iron and everything went well except for the clutch cable. I've adjusted the clutch however i didn't think it needed it however now the clutch isn't right. When I'm riding the clutch changes guys fine but when I'm stationary and change to 1st or second gear, there is a jolt in the bike. Anyone experienced the same issue? Any recommendations.

    Thanks

Hi , I get a jolt all the time, especially when it is cold. Do you mean a clunk ? There is a video of it being adjusted on You Tube - Del Boys Garage

normal sporty thing to do wouldn't worry about it. Makes a nice thud/clunk noise too.

it's important to check the ramp/free play in a sporty clutch, if not adjusted properly the chance of that stupid riveted clutch plate exploding increases.

If your clutch plates stick together, they do that on any HD. what primary oil , gear box oilo are you useing? also make sure you have some free play at the leaver. i had a kick start only shovel that was 3" open primary. if you washed it & water got in clutch , the plates would stick together, when you put it in gear felt like tghere was no clutch at all!! it would jump forward. i had to pull the clutch out when that happened. what you are experiencing is similar to that. so could be the oil your useing in primary, gear box or could be adjustment. but like Daddyracer said it's good to get a workshop manual for reference. but what primary oil did you put in & how much?

Angie if there wasn't a problem, and then you adjusted the clutch and now there is a problem- I would suggest that you undo whatever you did and make the problem go away:) JayInOz
