Installing accessories on a FXDB

Hi Everyone.  A question to the many out there that are more familiar with Harley.

For the extended riding I am planning to do, I wanted to add a couple of items to my bike ('16 StreetBob Special).

But I have a couple of questions on what I assumed would be straight forward to have installed

Question 1  AUXILIARY POWER PORT - HANDLEBAR MOUNT

The Harley catalogue says the following

"Ideal for powering handlebar-mounted accessories this
elegant cast housing securely clamps to the handlebar to keep
your power port within easy reach."

Fits '12-later Dyna, '11-later Softail, '14-later Road King models
with 1-1/4" diameter handlebars. '17-later Road King requires
separate purchase of electrical Connaction Kit P/N 69201599

    69200855   Chrome
    69200854   Blac

The rough estimate I get (from a Harley dealer) to have this installed is between 2 hours to 2-1/2 hours of labour.  Looking at the pic, I would have assumed it was a straight forward thing to do, but for a 2-1/2 job done by the experts seems overly long.

There is a connector at the end of the wires that should plug into a socket.  Perhaps there is no socket on a streetbob FXDB ??????

Certainly raises the cost of the way up high?

Has anyone had one of these installed on a Dyna?  Could I do it myself (I would need detailed step by step instructions though...

Question 2 HANDLEBAR PHONE CARRIER MOUNT

"Designed to place a smart phone or music device close at hand,
this ball-tipped mount is secured to the left-side or right-side
hand control perch for easy access. When combined with the
universal phone carrier, the ball shaped mount provides a wide
range of adjustability for the ideal viewing angle."

    7600 0537
Fits '02-later VRSC (except VRSCF and VRSCR), '04- later XL (except XL883N and XL1200N), '06 later Dyna (except FXDB), '00 later Softail, '09-later Touring

NOTE that this page says except FXDB

NOONE can explain why this is so.  There are no other mounts made by Harley specifically for the FXDB

So, Has anyone had one of these installed on a FXDB? Did it work ok?

    Or is there another solution?

As usual, I thank everyone who can advise a novice Harley rider

If you just need to be able to charge your phone or similar electronics, you can get a $20 USB type attachment that plugs into your battery tender. Very discrete and can charge stuff in your pocket, bag or whatever. Neat and tidy. I personally don't like all the crap on handlebars, not even on adventure bikes. That said, each to there own.

    Thanks for the reply.

I was needing a gps on the handlebars so I dont get too lost.  I've had a phone with google maps and I lost count the number of times I had to stop and check.

BUT I cant figure out the cost of installation though.  And of course there is no email address to ask anyone at Harley.

My guess is that the plug on the power outlet you are looking at goes into the diagnostic plug in the elecrical caddy under the cover on the left of the bike under the seat , the one i posted the link to uses that plug as well.

Have somthing simular to this in chrome for mounting the phone/gps , it seems to handle the vibration of the Dyna without any problems.

You'll get a far better response to your question if you post up an intro first in the appropriate section there mate.

Welcome to the forum. HD themselves are probably interested in your $50 accessory at $100 labour cost. Do these simple things yourself. You get to see how your bike is put together.

If wanting to add USB power, I'd recommend not spending big bucks on an HD branded one. Buy a cheaper one through Ebay. They are reasonable waterproof with a rubber cap.

Also rather than worrying about splicing into your bikes power supply buy a little fuse box splicer from Jaycar and put it into your accessory circuit (if you want the power supply to turn on and off with the ignition). Otherwise pick another fuse for full time power.

I've attached some picks. My Garmin GPS is hard wired into the bike using the same method. I got RAM mounts. Be careful not to overload the circuit. I think you get up to 10amps. Good luck
