On a softail the front brakes up until 2001+ have been the small single piston job that whie works is not all that crash hot, has anyone bothered to change it to a different model front caliper?  I'm sort of interested in a maybe twin or maybe four piston job from maybe a sporty or dyna perhaps anyone any ideas?

Not sure about the 2001 ones. The 2008 ones are not good either.

I went for a Performance Machine 6 piston caliper with larger dia disc/rotor and that made a noticeable improvement. You can still use the stock master cylinder too, which is a bonus.

Not sure if theyre available for softy front ends but for my FXR I emailed Wompy from Stillkickin Moto and he fabbed me a bracket that allows a Tokico 4 pot caliper to mount up on the stock rotor. I thinkI paid $120 delivered for the bracket. Caliper is off a SV650 and cost me the grand sum of $40 from ebay plus a tad more for a rebuild kit.

Unsure if I was suposed to change out the master but as it is, the stopping power is awesome - has caught me off guard a couple of times now..

Bracket is billet alloy and fits like a glove. Looks sweet too. I can post up a pic after work if anyone is interested. Google shows a few pics of the same conversion.

Caliper was a C-nut to bleed though.

    Cheers,

Not my bike but same company. Got drunk last night and forgot. One or both sides if needed and uses stock L/R SV650 calipers and 11.5" rotor.

Google stillkickin moto or Fabkevin. They both do them and also do a rear kit with anchor rod using the same calipers.

This is it with 11.8 floating rotor I did have the 11.5 but liked the floating style better so lashed  out And relized the floating where 11.8 which worked out better more pad contact I all so run lyndell z pads   It's apparently the same caliper as victory have used and BMW 800s , you do have to fluff around with getting the right  size banjo and fitting as there metric  sizing , will be doing the same conversion on my other bike in the future so much better than the Oem single pot  I also run a 5/8 master

Gidday folks ... i have gone the same way as Far Canal ... definitly an improvement over the original , BUT not real flash compared to latter model ABS Harleys or any Jappa from 1980 onwards ...
{ Just about } ... you would think with the money involved with 6 piston PM`s and Bigger Rotors it would be the Bee`s Knee`s .

Camikazi and Perth Hog`s idea`s look like they are on the right track .

Question ... with the set up i and Far Canal have we use the stock Master Cylinder due the Differential Bore on the PM Caliper ... would there be any real benifit changing Master Cylinders , other than looks and more money .

    Tim .
