Been in the transport game most of my life. Worked in a bank for 4 years straight out of school but hated being stuck inside(but i learnt how to drink). Went walk about doing odd jobs and ended up in Perth and loved it there, but my old man kicked the bucket and had to come back home to the Atherton Tablelands(QLD) and started up a courier business(at 21 years old). Sold that and moved to Cairns now with a missus and kid and got a job driving trucks as a start and then moved to QRX Transport driving all sorts of trucks from body trucks to semi's and road trains, and have been a rail shunter for the last 4 years. I have been there for 14 years and am leaving to drive trains near Tamworth now. I still love trucks but i think that it's a mugs game now, i know too many people and friends who have crashed and burned.

Keep up the good work Jilli.

The last twelve years has been offshore working as a mechanic on a survey vessel which is were I am posting this from. I work for a Norwegian company with 12 vessels working world wide so my job could take me anywhere. We work 12hr shifts 24/7 for 5 weeks then have 5 weeks off. Due to get off this Wed, . Its a dry ship too so you look forward to a coldie or ten when you get off.

Before doing this I was Jack of all trades and master at none. Slaughterman, Roofer, Fish and Chip shop owner and some really crapy jobs in between but they paid the bills and kept me on two wheels.

    Thats me done.

Started working life at the age of 11 as a paper boy, helped out dad in his retail business (camping) from 12, started working at McDonalds at 15 and stayed untill I was around 23, went right through from trainee to store manager.  Moved from Sydney to Adelaide for 12 months, wife hated it and we came back to Sydney after dad brought a small BBQ shop in Annandale, asked me to move back and work in the shop.

8 years on we have 4 stores selling BBQ's / Outdoor Furniture and heating, Operations Manager, long hours and not making enough money, closing 1 store soon.

What ever you do before opening your own retail shop think very carefully, much easier working for someone else.

Have to leave a plug I guess, www.bbqsandheating.com.au

Finished HSC in 74, didn't want to go to Uni (had enough of study). Got a job with Arnott's as a cadet sales/merchandiser. stayed doing that for 2 years and then got a job as a Sales Rep selling Beanbags. (The psychodelic 70's Ha!) Left that to work for Kiwi for a year, got the ass when they were bought out by Nicholas Pharmaceuticals. Opened up a Pizza Takeaway with my Old Man and toughed it out for 2 years working for the Bank. We sold it and I got a job as a Wardsman/Post Mortem Assistant. After 5 years had enough and started my own business window cleaning, and been doing that for the last 20 years. As a biker, I believe that if you work on your own bike and know it inside out you can truly call it your own. So I know a bit about Shovels and I'm learning about Evo's.

Left school at the end of year 10 and registered for unemployment and 5 weeks after leaving school I started working at Woolworths ( and I never got the first dole cheque) which lasted for 9+ years and I worked my way into department managerial positions and store manager on serveral ocassions, I did have a month off when I was run down from working 7 days a week and put my name down for the Buses, 18 months after returning back to Woolies I got the interview with the buses and started 2 weeks later, finished on the friday with Woolies and started Monday on the buses.

Been driving buses since 1989 on average 6 days a week and this year I decided to cut back to 5 days as soon as the new network started, well that lasted 2 weeks and then my back gave way on me and I have been off work on compo for almost 6 months now.

I also started my own little business (registered) in the beginning of the year selling Airbrushes and Airbrushing equipment on eBay, I make bugger all profit from the sales for the amount of work involved, but it did pay for the deposit on the Softail..

Not sure where my future is going with work or my business at the present but at least I can ride the bike to the post office and post parcels on most days of the week.
