I know what you mean Mungrel, I'm not really an IT person either.
I'm a Martial Arts Instructor who ended up working for IBM. Still teach and train Karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and love every minute of it, but it doesn't quite pay the bills
After doing Uni and working at a servo here in Ballarat for years, and getting bored with my Bachelor of Education, I made the shift to IT as well.
Was an IBM Helpdesk Consultant, then Systems Access, now Team Leader.
It's funny where you end up when you're not paying attention...

    gmeikle,

ANYTHING is better than GM. If you ask me I honestly belive they are evil. Their strategy is to slowly drive all their suppliers to bankrupcy (true). Anything less is unacceptable to their corporation. No one should be making a profit at their expence. Itis all going to places like Korea, now China, and screw the towns where they shut their plants down. They really are trying to achieve world domination. Holden, Vouxhall, Opel, GMC, Chervolette, Chrysler, Dodge, Oldsmobile, Buick, Issuzu, Cadilac, Pontiac, Saab,  and shares in Suzuki, Subaru and fiat, who own almost half of the other manufacturers. The list goes on and on.

On top of that, I believe about 25% of all their vehicles are financed through GMAC. So they still own the bloody things even after they have sold them.

    I know , I have issues

Thank your lucky stars you escaped!

Jeez what a varied lot we are. Myself, I left school and went into a Apprenticeship as a Moulder Coremaker at Mckechnies Iron foundry on Grand Junction road, finished that and got out whilst I was still alive and in one piece then done some spray painting at the old Tubemakers place on Churchill road and was talked into joining the Army at 23.

I spent 29 years in Infantry posted to varied cities but loved Townsville. It was a toss up whether to live in Adelaide or Townsville but family are all here on both sides. My wife and I go back once a year to see friends and kill some brain cells. The years of grunt work have taken their toll on the body and whilst posted to DSTO was offered a job with another division, which in the end was to good to let go, so I am now working for Defence but as a civy. Pulling a wage and a pension as well. I was planning on going into semi retirement but work and money and bloody bills take priority. Although it is still a novelty to wake up during the week with a stinking hang over and decide to take a day off!.

What made me buy a Harley? well I have always ridden bikes since I got my license at 16 My brother won a Harley Softail classic in a raffle here in Adelaide, bastard didn't even have a license. I took it for a ride and it was the most comfortable bike I had ridden in all my years. Then this year my daughters partener bought one, when they brought it around the wife says "shall we buy one love" So I got out and buy one. Absolutely love riding it, so does the wife. One thing I have noticed is that when I am on the bike no bugger comes near you, must be the fact that most people associate Harley's with bikies? I am not complaining though as it keeps me a little more relaxed whilst on the bike. Still a lot of dickheads with no eyes in the heads on the road though.

Now I'm just starting to get things done on the bike. I had it tuned by Scotty the other week and that man is a Rocket Scientist I should know I work with them (pat on the back to Scott for an excellent job). Now it is a case of getting the little things done to it that makes it mine. And the amount of knowledge that is readily available in this forum is a bonus. And some of the comment crack me up.

So there you have it in a nut shell.
