Team - i want to upgrade my brakes on a 2010 Nightster. Planning to just do a braided brake line and some decent pads for starters. Any recommendations on braided line (other than standard HD) or pad supplier? Lyndall Gold pads seem to get a good right up.

If this doesnt improve the stop then its onto a better caliper.....

go to birdz n bits , got mine from them in QLD fast deliver and only cost $46 and is ADR approved .

I got my banjo fitting from VPW cant remember the cost prob $30 each was anodized black looked awesome.

the brake line doesnt do that much , you will want to get a better caliper , people go the roadster caliper i think , meant to be better

    Hi mate,

Agree the brakes need an upgrade, did it on my Nightster, after years on maps with twin discs etc couldn't come to terms with throwing an anchor out!

    Ended up doing the following
    Price for brake upgrade was

EBC floating wave rotor - $200 (I think)
    XR1200 caliper - $250
HEL braided line - $100 (just under)

Brake and line delivered, caliper picked up from S-W Harley in Bunbury, very, very pleased.
Brakes work awesome and after being asked by a few people about whine from the waves, NO.

HEL will make the line to the length you want and in a zillion colours (mine are black to go with the bike.

Once you've done that you might think about improving the woeful forks if you haven't already, Progressive cartridges work and aren't to expensive.

Cheers and enjoy being able to stop,

    Howard

Russell lines are top notch. Lasted 20 years on the bike so far with no issues.

Cheers Guys - will be using the Lyndalls and going with Howard's set up.

Howard - i am trying to identify the EBC rotor you used. Do you have a parts number and did you do the install yourself?

any advice would be appreciated as your setup is exactly what i am thinking for my Nightster. Also any photos?

    many thanks all

If anyone needs braided lines, go see Trevor at South Glenelg Brake Service in Marion trade centre at 798 Marion rd, Marion. All ADR approved. Got both XR1200 Sporties done for about $200 each. Excellent improvement using EBC HH pads.smiley

    Hi mate,

Part number for the wave rotor is FSAD012C for the straight it's FSD010, if you go the XR calliper that comes with pads
and more than happy with the HEL lines that come with fittings attached etc. I didn't fit them all, just passed a spanner
to a mate, Ando, who for all you West Aussies who don't know him is a great qualified harley mechanic who you should
use (contact at MMVT ). Once you've done the brakes definitely think about the suspension, one
don't work without the other. For photos go to my pics, old version and as now - wheels, brakes, suspension, exhaust, clutch cable,
tank lift (to be dropped). Sorry old fart who can't seem to post a pic!

And Old Guy Racer that XR is sweet!

    Cheers,

    Howard

Had EBC wave rotors and HEL braided lines on my KWAKA ZRX, no problem there as long as its a good branded rotor and ADR compliant line. Some of the EBC pads I use are bit dusty though (Have Red Stuff on one of my cars).
