Hi All, I have a 95 sportster. It misses and farts when cold and Ive been told I need new gaskets. No biggy, I can do that. Ive googled the hell out of it and watched some videos and the thing that seems odd to me is that the intake manifold seems to be just a rough cast finish on the inside. Are there any mods you can do to the manifold to improve its performance? I know you can by better ones but just thought there might be something you can do yourself.
Thanks
Mods are: DO NOT polish the inside to a high shine (it buggers the air/fuel mix flow and causes the gas to fall out of suspension) You can remove any casting marks etc You can finish the inside using 60-80 grit sandpaper Some folks try to match the intake runner to the head surface so its smooth all the way through - a lot of effort for very little gain IMO.
If you have it off the bike then ALWAYS replace the gaskets as a rule. at the end of the day its just a manifold so your not going to reap a big (if any) horsepower increase; but you do a warm fuzzy feeling that you have 'tweaked' your bike yourself to some degree.
