Screaming Eagle exhaust mods question

    Hey guys,

I have a 2015 street bob with a stage 1 intake and screamin eagle slip on mufflers. In an attempt to get a better sound (ie- Louder) I tried removal of the baffles but found it to be a bit on the too loud side.... ?? . So I drilled out the holes in the baffles (almost twice as big) and replaced them but I had a mate take my bike for a ride this arvo and was really disappointed with the lack of noise/note. I have read on these forums about opening up the flap on the bottom of the baffle, but am a bit unsure.

I have also considered removing the slip ons altogether ?

I am wondering if anyone is running without baffles or has done the above mods and what thoughts are on getting a better sound.

If your head pipes are standard they will have catalytic converters in them which reduces the volume and depth in sound and generates heat. Getting rid of the cats will improve sound and heat

They will sound better after a few thousand kilometres. Get out there and ride it, which is what it needs! Had SE mufflers on two previous bikes and no complaints. Just need to 'bed them in'!

Right you are hilly. I had it confused with the wide glide and fat bob which has the cat in the collector part of the exhaust just before the mufflers. That makes it a bit easier for the op

Yeh, the CAT at the back knocks the sound down in the SE slip ons. At least with it a bit quiet it doesn't attract the wrong attention. Taking the CATS out really makes them loud.

thanks for the input guys. I have made the baffle holes (as per Hillys post) at around 10mm and added a hole to the flap, however it is just too quiet.

More questions than answers though.... Will more km (currently 3k) make it that much louder? Do I punch out the Cat inside the slip on, which in turn can't be undone if it's not the desired result?

My other consideration is to remove the slip ons altogether , and just fit a couple of 45 degree bends to push the exiting exhaust away from the swing arm. I am not sure if this will be louder than a muffler without a baffle because of the echo effect occurring inside the larger pipe?.. I suppose I could just tinker around one day and try it hey....

As Hilly says, I have a mate with Rush slip ons on his Fatbob and you can buy different sized baffles for them. They go from not too loud to quite loud. He put the larger ones in and it is as loud as mine with the Freedom sharp curve radius with quiet baffles fitted. I found the radius pipes without baffles obscenely loud.

Bit like the Vance and Hines slip ons I have on my bike Methuselah I had the quiet baffles in them but put the loud ones back in and now I have to pull the clutch in and roll to a stop when ever I have a cop car behind me.
