Paint damage from dealer

    Hi everyone

So picked my new bike up a few weeks ago from the dealer, had pipes fitted, air cleaner and tuner etc. I had bought myself a mustang fastback seat aswell and the guys at the dealer told me to bring it in and they would fit it for me! all good i thought until i took the mrs on the back for the first time, shes only small and not exactly heavy but the bracket that bolts the seat to the fender has taken some of the laquer off and even chipped a small amount of paint,

after doing some research i have found that the standard seat nut sits in a special cut slot and has a plastic circlip to hold it in place, this plastic circlip is also what stops the seat bracket from rubbing on the paint. when they have fitted the seat there appears to be a thread in the plastic for the plate and light etc that sits in the spot for a pillion seat and they have used this. all that was needed to stop the damage was a small rubber washer, i got one from a tap seal and have put it there to stop it getting any worse.

or the other alternative they could have used the correct seat bolt to begin with

so what do you think... i supplied an after market seat, its not mustangs fault it rubbed through, its not harleys fault as its an aftermarket seat... is it the dealerships fault for not taking as much care as they shoudlve when fitting? i didnt see it til it was too late but common sence says you dont let too bits of metal rub against eachother if one of them is painted and it can move???

do you think its up to them to sort out the paint damage?

also wanted to add theres a fair amount of scratchs in the clear coat on the rear fender too, like as if it was cleaned with a dirty cloth.

only had it for a five days total

    will let you know tomorrow....

found an installation PDF for a badlander...

    NOTE
On rear fenders of 1997-1999 models, a captive nut secured
with a plastic retention washer has replaced the previously
used weld nut. Do not remove the plastic retention washer
unless the captive nut is damaged and must be replaced. The
plastic retention washer also prevents seat bracket from
contacting paint on fender. Therefore, no nylon washer is
required between bracket and fender on 1997-1999 models.
    5. On pre- 1997 models, secure seat onto rear fender with
original screw and lockwasher and place guide washer (1)
between seat bracket and rear fender.

5a. On 1997-1999 models, secure seat onto rear fender with
    original screw and lockwasher.

hopefully they see my point that they fitted it wrong. i would really like to keep going there too...

Where you say, "I would really like to keep going there", I wouldn't take my bike there for anything if they can't even install a seat correctly. It's not rocket science

Just be polite but firm and call them out on the nut fitment and the scratches (they should come right out with the correct buffer etc).

Tell them them you want it fixed up like a new showroom bike shoul be.
