Hi. Just brought a 1983 xlx sporty that I'm going to restore. I've managed to pick up most of the parts I need but I'm having trouble sourcing an OEM exhaust system. The original exhaust would have been a set of black tapered turbos with a cross - over equalizer pipe and heat shields. Anyone know where I could pickup a set or has a set lying around in their shed. I would even take a chrome set, would not be worried about a bit of rust or blueing as I would be painting them black.

Hey tusuck, if you are talking about my cover picture, then yes it is a Shovel. It's my 1979 Lowrider. If you are talking about the brochure picture I post then it is a Sporty. Some of us are fortunate enough to have more than 1 bike.smiley

They never made a sportser Shovel!! Thats an Iron head! Shovels are alloy head big twin . But i ha e seen shovesters have you?

But back to question, the Iron Head mounts the pipes just like a panhead so will be very very hard to find new old stock, easier to make some now i can see the Shovel is it 74 or 80?

It's an 80 (1340 cc) Krash, that I brought after selling my old xlx sportster. Always regretted sell the sporty so when I recently had the chance (and the money) I brought another one.

Been thinking along the same line Krash. The bike has a set of old custom pipes with out-turned mufflers. Been thinking about cutting the mufflers off and fitting a set of turbo mufflers then painting the lot black. Wouldn't have the cross-over pipe but hopefully wouldn't look to bad. Would get the bike on the road until I find an original set. Found a Harley dealership in the states that has the pipes but they will not, (and I mean totally refuse to), ship out of the United States. It may take awhile but I will find a set.

That would cost a bit to send the pipes over from USA. unless you know someone that are bringing a container out, you could try old car & bike importers.

another way to get around the dealer who has some not shipping to AU is if you know someone in USA that pipes could be sent too then send to you. I think HD stopped dealers sending parts to AU. as local Dealers got upset. Another idea is go to a local HD dealer would need to be a big one Like say Frazer's, ask them if they could contact the dealer & bring pipes out for you. If it was me i would try everything to get NOS!!
