What was the reason you pulled the lifters ?? ie, What symptoms were you hearing etc ??? Or did you pull them to do a cam swap, and this is what you found ??

Lifters in m8 couldn't be any worse than the 103 twin cam so shouldn't put you off.

I reckon 8 out 10 are shit

A lot on the US forums reckon the lifters are made in Mexico and rubbish them .

is that a good enough reason to build a wall?

Mmmmm So the new you beut M8 , the ducks guts of the latest . So with the state of these followers after 1400ks really shows the quality control of parts going into the latest new design motor that every one should be racing out to buy is not convincing me to do it . I was always under the asumption that when they build new things that they go through a rigorous testing stage and then pull them apart and put them under a microscope to see if there is any sign of funny things happening  to the new donk etc . Lucky you decided to change your cams as it may have been a ugly outcome on some dark and lonely road . A lot of new M8 owners will be shaking in there skin right now . I think I will stay with my twin camm and Evo for a few mor years until the sought out some real trustwothy parts .

I agree the oem lifters aren't ideal but they've lasted well in most twin cams particularly those that aren't modified and maintained by the book. No reason not to buy a bike imho

Hi Ando yes it is a Switchback . twin cam and all . I have not heard of the lifters going in such a short time in these eather . But in saying that the message you sent and after seeing the state of the followers I wander why they are marked so much and wander how much more are they going to be marked after say 30 thousand k's ! Also I believe my lifters are genuin from Mexico . Also is there a chance they have changed the followers in any way for the M8 ! I know that a lot of genuin parts are not made by Harley Davidson , if they were we would not buy the bike due to pricing . I worked in spare parts for 32 years and seen a lot of so called genuin parts fail , just look in any dealership's work shop . We will still wander why this happens and say why me . After paying a big hand full of dollars for the ride you buy you certainly can do without this happening for sure . Can't ride my bike due to my illness and sits in the shed waitng for the day I can .

Well thank you Geoff3DMN . I have learned something from this forum . I will try to remember this . So do you still have your Switchback and how do you like it !! I was going for a road king and had my eye on a beuty at the time ( 2006 model ) but decided what the heck a bloke should be able to buy at least one new bike in his life and bit the bullet and got mine is 2014 and now it is just sitting there beside my soft tail evo . Have you done many k's on your's also any prblems with it ? Maybe the followers ! As fatbat said they seem ok in stock motors as mine is but if they don't look at putting in a better follower in a bigger powerfull moter they are asking for trouble as we have seen . I realy hope I will be able to get a ride on mine this summer , my illness allowing . Bloody getting old sucks some times .

Yep, still got the Switchback, It'll be 5 next May and it's got just under 20,000kms on it (not a lot I know), I also looked at the Road King when I bought it but with no trade in I was already stretching my budget. The only trouble I've had was a rear disk brake piston seizing up which scored the rear disk and they were replaced under warranty (a while back), all good since then. I did replace the rear shocks with a set of progressives and put some new fork springs in the front which helped the ride and handling a bit (being a heavy bugger I needed it). Mine isn't stock but it's only lightly modified with a set of 254E cams, a breather, tuner and pipes, so far the motor has been fine.

I hear you about getting old! My arthritis is making it harder and harder to ride but I'm hanging in there (although the longer travel suspension and less vibes of the touring bikes are looking more and more attractive as time goes by).

I figure it's better to be riding even if it's slower and not as far as it used to be.

Crewman just ride it mate there are thousands and thousands of Harleys out there with massive K's on them that don't even know about frosting lifters that have no issue so keep riding it mate

Hi Geoff and Ando . First Ando Yes there was a lot of rumers about twin cams as I remember ( I just wander how many have the nuts rode off them before shit happened ) And just get and ride ! well I do agree with you whole hartedly but getting on and off is a story in its self and Geoff yes the bloody arther is a big bother amongst other things that is wrong with my old bod . Last time I rode was the end of Feb 16 and rode about 45 k's and paid dearly for it . Have been on morphine patches and a hand full of other shit just to get up and live the day for over 18 months now . As I tell the sawbones in there little castles I am not going to sit on my arse all day thinking about it so I potter around as much as I can so I keep the body going , fixing the house up a bit and working on getting that bike back under me . A goal is a goal !!!
