Agree with Walka. Possible cause is the check valve in oil pump stuck or worn. This causes the oil to gather in the crankcase when the bike is not running and when you start the bike it causes crankcase pressure and the only way to relieve that pressure is via the head breathers. Keen to know if you solve the issue.

So I tore into the cam chest and it is trashed, no cam chan tensioners left, can support plate bushing had fallen out and the cank run out is nearly 1mm.

Sumping for sure the case was full and had just filled the motor up and had no where to go

motor is out ready for a major

When I first picked it up I had to charge the battery and then when I started it it fired straight up and there was no way I could tell that there was anything wrong with this from any strange noise it idled like a kitten

Crankshaft run out can work the bush loose in the cover but the bush 25344-99 has a knurl on the inside to locate it ,the bush in the picture does not appear to have one and has walked toward the outside!!

It may come as a surprise but not all tensioner failures make noise! i regularly repair the aftermath of this type of failure and have heard repeated reports of no noise leading up to the noise of the final failure.

The early spring tensioner definitely like more frequent oil changes and a crank with zero run out , i have seen well over 100k trouble free on these things owned by guys that tend to change at shorter intervals than recommended by the Motor Company .

I don't know if its just the photo, but is that root wear i can see on the inside of the cam gear teeth?

A note to anyone repairing this type of situation is to replace the chains when changing tensioners and inspect all gears for any marking left by the Hyvo chain, as any residual component worn parts reinstalled in the engine will accelerate the wear on the new parts installed and bring about a considerably shortened service life ,which has been well documented in the past ,80k on the original chain drive and less than 20k on the repair.

Chains are Farked very stiff all over, even the crank has a tight spot with wear marks on the wheels from rubbing on the cases behind the inner cam bearings
