I have just installed my cams,SE255's in a 2010 Wideglide and have been doing a bit of tuning and noticed the engine temps are around 250' fahrenheit, just wondering if anyone knows what the engine temps should run at?? I don't know if this is too hot or the norm..

    Cheers...

Seems normal to me as well ....
I just installed se255 cams, (thanks Mickle), in a 2009 Electra Glide from a stage 1 setup with no cat..... Put her on a dyno to check everything was fine with afr etc, with the cam upgrade ... The tuner was happy with what he had to work with,, (cobra dial type fuel module)..

Back to question ,, heat temp .... to be honest , there seems to be a slight increase , but definitely of no concern .... We are getting into warmer weather, and my comparison was from the colder months before the upgrade ..... .. As my model did not come stock with an oil cooler, I was considering installing one with the cam upgrade , but as I basically do zero riding in city traffic , I thought I would wait and see ... Looks like I saved a few hundred ......

Hi Mark...I did a run today and it is really warm up here so all seems good...I have one of those oil coolers that slide over the filter so maybe that helped..I'm pretty happy with the improvement with the cam over standard although I've only ridden it to get some tunes done..Certainly makes the bike louder and a little lumpier at idle..Who did your dyno??

    Cheers...

250F is 120C.. You will see 135+ on a hot day in traffic. You do not say what your riding conditions were. if it was mine I would like to see it lower than 120 on a nice open ride, for sure. Still if it was mine I would not have 255 cams. The inlet close is much earlier than even a stock cam, for higher than ever cranking pressure and good torque from idle to 3500rpm, and poor top end power. Good for starter motor sales and frying rings. Exhaust will be louder because of a more aggressive exh timing.

Thanks for the coments Lushy...I went with 255's as plenty of bikes seem to have them and these were available.I was after the power down low as you say...I'm not a racer so top end power doesn't bother me that much..My bike is a 2010 96ci Wideglide with air and Bassani Road rage pipes but everything else is standard...What cam's would you recomend for this set up..

    Cheers...

In a stock 96 they are ok for low end, I saw heaps of issues with these cams used on the 96/103 kits ex HD with 9.8 comp. Ugly, starter issues etc due to sky high cranking pressure. Even in a bike like yours they need to be very carefully tuned to avoid pinging etc.As the guy above said if you like the result thats fine. Some of your temp is coming from the higher cranking pressures.
