Sorry if being niaive. Do most owners of reasonably late model bikes up for sale REALLY flog them enough to do long term damage? I only know blokes who treat them as their pride and joy. A good service history, visual inspection, mechanical inspection and assessment of the owner should give you an idea of the bikes condition.
Chriso is right. Thousands of bikes out there at ridiculously cheap prices with room to move (down). Save your cash.
