    Hey Guys ,

Ive just purchased my first iron 2012 883 It has chrome stock pipes which i like ,but im thinking id like to put on

black pipes which have come off a 2016 iron 883 .

    So my question is

1 - are they compatable ? does they whole system go striaght ,on headers and all ?

2 - do you need to modify any part ?

3 - do you need to recollbrate the computer ?

sorry if this has been ansewred before, but i cant seem to find any thing to help.

    rusty.

The O2 sensors are a different size.

Your bike has an 18mm bung, the new bikes have a 12mm bung.

They make adapters that go from 18 to 12, but don't know of one that goes the other way round. The pipes if you are lucky may have the adapters on them (unless they are OEM pipes)

Best bet would to take the pipes to an exhaust shop and have them weld the correct bung in and have them recoated.

You don't have to re calibrate the computer, but HD's are so strangled from the factory with their ultra lean ECU settings (to pass emmisions) that it's worth the $$$ for both performance and engine well-being.

Hey Rusty, you also need to check the mounting of the pipes onto the bike. The Sportster went to ABS brakes in 2014, which led to a change in the exhaust system mounting. It is hard to explain in a post like this, but pre-2014 the connection to the balance pipe, which is also the main mount for the exhaust, was on the front part of the mufflers. Post 2014, the connection to the balance pipe is on the header pipes. The mounting brackets were also changed in 2014 to accommodate a repositioned rear master cylinder for the new ABS brakes. If you look on any after market exhaust web sites they will all have systems and/or slip-ons listed as "pre 2014" and "post 2014". Sorry, but your issues are more than just the o2 sensor sizes. I suggest a thorough check of the mounting brackets as well mate. TC
