so much freeply in the throttle/idle cables

i like the feel of having very little freeplay in my throttle/grip, but since new (3000km ago) my street bob has been a sloppy mess. i've adjusted the idle cable time and time again to the point where the grip doesn't snap back to closed. i ride around like this for 10 minutes or so as a test, and boom! back to sloppy. is there something i'm missing? i've removed my air cleaner and i can't see any points of adjustment at the throttle body end, so i guess it's just the two adjusters near the grip?

is this normal for harley's and something i just have to get used too, or should it be looked at further by a tech?

Adjustments are done at the grip end.

Best guess is maybe at the air cleaner end you didn't push the cables into the black plastic slots properly so they've slid in themselves and loosened everything up? It's easy to do so I give them a hard shove into that bit to make sure they go in properly.
I'd readjust it all and it should be good.

Otherwise maybe take a pic near the air cleaner end and post it to make sure that's right.

thanks bonkerz! i'll double check everything again and take a photo, but from memory it looked right. kind of like a similar setup to the grip end minus the brass ferules. could the idle cable be stretching that much after i adjust it each time?
