So why did HD call our bike a Dyna?
I've read that it's an ancient Greek girls name meaning Powerful.
Anyone know why HD used the name?
Roo.
It's from the old depression era limerick....
Rich girls use vaseline,
poor girls use lard,
Dyna uses axle grease,
because her cunt's so hard.
It was a bit of an in house joke amongst the designers at Harley who were aware of the shortcomings of the Dynas shocks, and the resulting thought that any girl who rides one of them must indeed have "Robust Undercarriage".
Well I was using a bit of artistic licence there, you know, not letting the truth get in the way of bullshit.
However!
There is an interesting story about the naming of the Fatboy model which made its debut in 1990.
The story goes something like this.....
In the late 80's Harley was getting pretty pissed off with the number of "Metric Cruisers" from the home of the sushi, rising sun,Honda,Kawa,Suzi,Yamaha etc etc.
The 2 bombs that were dropped on Japan to end world war 2 were "Fat Man" which was dropped on Nagasaki and "Little boy" that was dropped on Hiroshima. Fatboy being an amalgam of the two.
The firsy Fatboy had many design "accents" which can be seen to be taken from the bomber that dropped the bombs.
Harley HQ of course refutes any link however there is lots of evidence that backs up the claim.
It may or may not be true....What do your "bullshit detectors" think? , fellow forum perusers.
