Do you think anyone will notice it missing?
Went for a ride today to try out my new helmet and I decided to do a little sight seeing.
So here I am puttering along and on the left I noticed a side road going down to a picnic spot so I turned down the hill and followed it till the end, turned around and them came back up.
I wasn't going too fast uphill and went into a left hand corner and the next second "where's the bloody road gone?"
I hit the brakes and the rear locked up for a second and then the ass swung out to the right and the next moment I was doing a superman impersonation without the cape.
So I picked myself up off the ground and lifted the bike back up and checked out the damage I had done...
A few gouge marks on the pipes, front indicator lense & rear indicator housing and the handle bars were out of alignment but the tank copped the most damage.
Bugger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ouch! hope she's insured.
Sooooo............... umm did ya find the badge..................... sorry M8 but couldn't resist, hope ya get her straight & shiny soon, try telling the insurance it get hit in a carpark
Ya never know ya luck
Bano - This happen just outside Canberra just off the Tidbinbilla Road on Corin Dam road, The Cotter/Tidbinbilla road is a favourite haunt for riders on the weekends as you have long straights, twisty corners and all up a pleasant ride.
Flan - I know what you mean, I have been fairly cautious with my bike and not doing anything too crazy and what happens, I end up dropping the bloody thing *sigh* on a Sunday ride, sheesh every time I take the bike out i have to negotiate up the driveway (massive long driveway witha steep angle) and I'm more scared of dropping the bike doing then than the other elements actually riding the bike on the road...AAARRRGGGG!!!
PKSHED - I'm fine, Just a little scratch on my shin where I think it must have hit the horn cover ( or something) and not a mark on my Helmet, Jacket or boot's, even my camera and phone that was in my shoulder bag missed out on being damaged, I had my lunch in a plastic bag, a small thermos, even little UHT single serve milk thingy's and nothing was squashed. Even lifting the bike back up by myself didn't further stuff my already stuffed back
Just got off the phone talking to QBE and a seperate call to The Harley dealer to discuss my options. My excess is $1,100 and it's really the tank that is my main concern as I can replace all the other parts at a later date with aftermarket parts as they are just a tad scratched up. There's a long waiting list on the tanks and their on backorder anyway, Dealer is chasing up decal prices and I'll enquire about the cost of getting the tank repaired as another option, but I'll run out to the dealer tomorrow for a rough estimate for a repair quote.
I rode the bike home with bars at an angle and she still rode alright with no drama's ( mind you it was actually more comfortable with the bars lower), adjusted the bars and right hand controls when I got home so I'll see how it goes tomorrow.
Might have to make up a band-aid for the tank though
Oh well, shit happens......
Hey Toxic,
Another rider went past shortly after it happened and turned around to check on my condition, while he was there I walked back and picked up my badge off the road and said " Awwwwww, my badge is scratched" and then laughed.
And before anyone ask's.... No, my life didn't flash in front of me in slow motion as I was flying through the air, happened so quick that there wasn't enough time for a full flash back, heck, didn't even get to the opening titles
ooouuccchhh that looks saw....................
Glad your ok though
I would have said a really big bear jumped out in front of me tried to steal my ride , did a round house kick nocked the bear to the ground and followed through and got the bike.......hehehehehe
Hey Hidiho,
what a total bummer, these things happen to the best of us no matter how careful we are. It always seems to happen when unexpected...you know the saying " always expect the unexpected" Sorry to hear about your misfortune but happy that you are okay though.
Feel sorry for ya mate. Just got off the phone to my brother in law. He did a similar thing on his 08 Heritage last Sat. luckfor for him aonly scratches on front/back blinkers, an his new derby cover (had only been on for 5 days)
Awww, Finny.... I don't think the insurance Company would believe a Koala would be tall enough to steal me bike, Now a Randy Red Roo going for the pounce would make more sense and would explain the dent in the tank, the bugger even left claw marks when he tried to get a grip too!!!... I best go and check that the softies exhaust outlets haven't been widened....
Joey - Would you believe I didn't swear once, whats done is done but I was a bit upset that my badge was a bit mangled, but no drama as I can always make an appoinment for councelling if the trauma gets too bad
Fat-Boy - Yeap , been backing off when I've been going round blind corners but the road disappearing after i went over the rise really confused the heck out of me and took a split second before i realised what had happened ... My other bike (XJ 650T years ago) I managed to ride for a whole year and had a few close calls and emergency stops but this little exercise yesterday was "weird" the way it happened.....
Ouch That wont buff out in a hurry. All the best in getting her fixed up real quick.
Did the run around on getting the tank repaired and a rough quote on the full damage to the other parts.
Complete Tank (ordered from the US) I was quoted $1660 and with all the other extra "scratched" parts will come to around $3,300+ in parts. problem is that the tank will take months to get here due to the back order.
Tank repaired by a Custom painter here and replacement Badge $886 but he can't start till mid November and will take about 2 weeks.
One thing I do have to replace if I continue to ride the bike are the Handle bars as they are bent as well, every thing else is minor damage.
The irony is that the damaged parts (apart from the Tank) are on my list for Items that I was thinking of upgrading at a later date.
So now I have to decide, Insurance and back to original or pay for the tank to be repaired myself and add the "bling" at a later date.
Hmmmmm.....
Suggestions????
if i could afford it and wanted to change the parts anyway, i would just bling it.
man thats not good, but at least you are all intact
