i have a little project bike (old old yammie XT250) I'm doing up as a small stripped down tracker, I need some minor frame mods done, some welding of bungs, removal of bits etc.. while in theory yes I should learn to diy, I don't have tools or knowledge, would prob cost me more in buying gear than just getting it done right.
But.. can anyone recommend any fabrication guys down on the Melb peninsula? I'm in Sorrento but it looks like there's guys in Mornington but I don't know any of them. Also need a new header pipe fabbed up.. suggestions?
Walka, you're a star! Thank you
Well no, some customs are just bloody awful....
This is the base bike.. The plan is a tiny egg 1.6gl tank, thin flat seat, 19" front wheel, no airbox, strip everything not required, chrome front and rear fenders, small headlight.. simple simple.. black, chrome and a candy brown cherry finish on the tank. Living down here in sorrento right on the beach, I'm just after a tiny lightweight zip about beach bike.. These old XTs are a barrel of laughs to ride, they weigh nothing, kick start, simple as hell and its hard to kill the motors on them.. It'll only do about 90km/h, maybe 100 if you really push it, but theres no point!
This is the photoshop mockup..
Some changes.. fitting one of those tiny tanks is just a nightmare.. The shock on this was pre-linkage design so it has a half metre shock absorber all up the frame, add to that the tank hid all of the ugly elctrical junk.. so.. Going to stick with the stock tank, raise it up and inch and a half and give the lil bike a proper late 70s early 80s paint job, Ive drawn up an era appropriate tank logo too So.. Who can anyone recommend to repair the tank and can do nice flake paint? Ive tried a couple of the local likelys but I cant get anyone to quote or return my calls.
