    Hey guys,

I have an issue with the HD side mount licence plate on a 2014 FXDB.

The pivot pin that holds the licence plate to the mount keeps dropping out. I had the first one replaced under warranty, fitted the new one and its lasted 500kms when the pin dropped out and the entire licence plate broke off at 100km/hr, lucky it didn't hit anyone behind...

Has anyone else had problems with the HD side mount plate?? or maybe i've had 2 dud ones??

I have the chopped fender so I kinda want to keep that look..

    Thanks in advance.

    Ok, thanks Hot and Heavy...

I must have something going on to have 2 break in 1000kms..

The picture attached shows the problem pin that drops out and this time it fell out completely and also lost the retainer tension spring inside. I managed to retrive the actual licence plate part from the side of the road.

Guess I'll be going back to the dealer again on Monday..

    Thought that was illegal?

Regs say from a distance of 20m you must be able to read the plate within 45 degrees.. HD sidemount easily meets that requirement.

Ohh, maybe its just NSW then, I would much prefer to have the plate on the side.

Actually, a copper could complain about not seeing the plate from the extreme angle of the other side of the bike.
I think I remember this being mentioned before.

When I bought my bike off the fella that bought it into the country it had a side mounted plate the same as above and was registered in NSW...I took the ugly looking thing off...

Just for the heck of it, I'll measure it up with the 20m / 45 degree thing and see if it's visible from the right hand side.. it should be, the bloody thing sticks out far enough.

Motor Head, Where did you put your plate? I've got a chopped fender so I don't really want to use the ugly plastic plate holder that attaches to the rear of the guard which makes it look like a full fender anyhow.

Ohh, I see. Its attached horizontally, not vertically. Vertically must be against the law then.
